What You'll Do
This is an AI-first role where your state and local tax expertise becomes the product. You will build the multi-state datasets, workpapers, and scenarios that teach our models how an expert reasons through compliance, and pressure-test their output to keep it accurate and defensible.
You will sit on our product team and partner closely with engineering, with significant ownership over the SALT content that powers the product.

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in state and local tax compliance and consulting.
  • Proven track record preparing and reviewing multi-state income, franchise, sales and use, and other state and local tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and mid-sized entities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing comprehensive state and local tax workpapers, including apportionment schedules, nexus analyses, and state-specific adjustments.
  • Strong background conducting state and local tax research to resolve complex technical issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated tax content, identifying errors, omissions, and edge cases, and apply your SALT expertise to validate and improve it.
  • Hands-on experience managing clients with multi-state tax obligations, including coordinating compliance across multiple jurisdictions and addressing varying state requirements.
  • Experience serving clients across diverse industries with a focus on individuals and small to medium-sized businesses.
  • CPA, EA, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using tax and accounting software, along with collaboration tools like Slack, Google Workspace, and Fathom.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with indirect tax automation tools or SALT-focused technology solutions.
  • Background in startups or fast-paced, tech-driven environments.

How We Define Success in This Role

A strong State and Local Tax SME in this role:
  • Produces validated, authority-backed SALT datasets and workpapers (income, franchise, and sales and use) that pass review with minimal rework.
  • Reliably catches errors, omissions, and edge cases in AI-generated SALT output before it ships, and can explain the correct treatment with authority.
  • Builds fact patterns and answer keys that become a primary source in our SALT training and evaluation sets, improving model accuracy on the tasks they own.
  • Keeps our datasets current as multi-state laws change, and translates complex tax concepts clearly for product and engineering partners.

Why Join Us
This is your chance to apply your expertise beyond client work, impacting how thousands of professionals use AI to simplify tax compliance and planning.

The base pay range for this role is $110,000 to $130,000 per year.
