T-Mobile is synonymous with innovation–and you could be part of the team that disrupted an entire industry! We reinvented customer service, brought real 5G to the nation, and now we’re shaping the future of technology in wireless and beyond. Our work is as exciting as it is rewarding, so consider the career opportunity below as your invitation to grow with us, make big things happen with us, above all, #BEYOU with us. Together, we won’t stop!

Get hands-on experience, training—and a leg up on a bright future.

T-Mobile didn’t become a leader by following the playbook. We got here by breaking it. We’re a disruptor that now plays on a higher tier, and we’re still raising the bar for millions of customers nationwide. If you want to work somewhere that sets the standard instead of matching it, this is your place.
This is an 11-week paid learning experience where you’ll do real work, not busywork. You’ll build relationships with other interns and leaders across the company, and you’ll be paired with mentors who will challenge you to grow skills that matter. We’ll give you hands-on projects with real stakes, and we expect your creativity and sharp ideas to make an immediate impact. You’ll work alongside T-Mobile employees who have your back and who still believe the best ideas can come from anyone.

What It’s Like

You’ll join the team that shapes T-Mobile’s AI-powered customer experience, including IntentCX, virtual assistants, and voice and chat bots. We build AI experiences for 100M customers and see 100k users a day. The pace is fast and the Un-carrier culture rewards curiosity and ownership. In a typical week, you’ll write and test prompts, review results with product owners and engineers, and share what you learn with the team.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be the team’s go-to prompt engineer. You’ll write, test, and refine the prompts that shape how our AI assistants respond to customers, so they get answers faster. You’ll also use prompts to speed up the team’s own work, like drafting user stories, summarizing research, and analyzing data. By the end of the internship, you’ll present your prompt strategy and results to leadership, with a direct impact on the customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, write, test, and iterate on prompts for conversational AI use cases such as chat and voice bots
  • Build and maintain a documented prompt library with versioning, best practices, and results
  • Evaluate prompt performance with structured testing and side-by-side comparisons, and recommend improvements to accuracy, tone, and containment
  • Create prompts and workflows that help the team with research, documentation, and analysis
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective AI behavior
  • Present your prompt strategy and results to leadership

What It Takes

  • Hands-on experience prompting LLMs such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot through coursework, projects, or prior roles
  • Strong written communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to write clear, precise instructions
  • An analytical mindset, with comfort evaluating outputs and iterating based on data
  • Curiosity, urgency, and a desire to learn quickly on the job and build a career in consumer AI
  • A plus: familiarity with few-shot examples, chain-of-thought, and system prompts
  • A plus: experience with Excel, SQL, or Agile tools such as Jira

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future
  • Must have one or more course(s) remaining in a Bachelors or Graduate degree program post internship
  • Employees of T-Mobile or Metro by T-Mobile are ineligible for external Summer Internships, please see Magenta Accelerator if interested

Relocation assistance will be provided to program participants who reside more than 50 miles from the internship location.

Intern wages range from $27/hour to $50/hour. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on education/STEM vs non-STEM designation.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
