Job Description

The Onyx Supply Chain Design group engages with customers in a variety of supply chain improvement projects, including network design, transport flow optimization, inventory optimization, etc. As an engineer within this group, you will be responsible for comprehensive analytics, modeling, optimization and simulation related to our customers’ supply chains using state of the art supply chain optimization and simulation software. Projects within the group are very diverse in terms of scope, industry and world regions. 

As a Supply Chain Engineer, you will work in an environment that’s fast paced and highly collaborative, both internally and with customers. You are expected to analyze problems and situations, and to develop solutions in partnership with internal and external stakeholders that are realistic and can be implemented. Typical project goals include maximizing resource effectiveness, reducing costs, optimizing inventory levels and achieving the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Works closely with Consultants to develop a deep understanding of the customers’ needs and current situation.
  • Must develop in-depth knowledge of the customer current state so that the process can be appropriately modeled and solutions developed.
  • Frames complex problems and applies appropriate analytics to formulate a pragmatic solution. Identifies the assumptions, constraints, implications and consequences of decisions.
  • Leverages substantial amounts of complex data, both quantitative and qualitative. Must understand what the data means and how to increase its integrity in order to analyze both the current situation and provide solutions through alternate scenarios. 
  • Selects appropriate technology and analytical methods to efficiently and effectively deliver project objectives.
  • Collaborates with several parties including clients, suppliers, and internal organizations.
  • Analyze and decompose complex business requirements into technical requirements.
  • Aligns technical approach with business objectives to achieve desired project and business outcomes using sophisticated software tools to build models.
  • Tells the story using impactful visuals and other presentation materials, in an efficient and effective manner to key internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Understands implications of new information for both the current and future problem-solving and decision making.
  • Continuously seeks to improve their process, project deliverables and advance supply chain knowledge.

Required Skills and Attributes:

  • Must effectively multi-task, maintaining a certain project load to maintain and grow his/her own skills, and in part to support the engineer team’s needs. 
  • Must have advanced knowledge of database software (SQL server) and visualization (Tableau, Power BI).
  • Must understand all the aspects (mathematics, constraints, business processes, etc.) of modeling, optimization and simulation.
  • Experience with large data sets and proficient in organizing and transform into insights.
  • Must have a proven track record of high quality presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Be an effective listener and communicator.  These qualities are essential to solve the problem at hand.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements.
  • Willing and able to accept questioning and constructive criticism of work output.
  • Able to assess what is critical for a project objective and distinguish between essential and nice to have.
  • Demonstrates a keen attention to detail and ensures project deliverables are practical and have exceptional quality.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Experience with converting complex data (quantitative and qualitative) into comprehensive baselines and solutions.
  • Exceptional customer service, presentation, analysis, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, and SQL Server and knowledge of visual software such as power BI or Tableau is a must.
  • Experience with supply chain modeling software or concepts and experience working directly with clients and with the nuances associated with supplier-customer relationships.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in collaborative groups.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills

Education and Experience:

Bachelors of Science, or higher, in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Systems Engineering or Applied Mathematics/Sciences or other related degree relevant work experience.

 

Desired qualifications

  • Experience with SaS Viya software and CAS programing preferred, knowledge of SaS 9.4 or previous.
  • Experience with supply chain modeling software or concepts preferred but not required.
  • An understanding of data flows (EDI), as well as Expeditors internal data structures.
  • Understands key supply chain flows and performance levers (i.e. on-time delivery, cost, inventory, etc.) and applies these to project analysis and solution designs to improve performance.
  • Understanding of the transportation and global logistics industry.
  • Knowledge of Python programing language.
  • Supply Chain certifications like MITx, ASCM, SC Pro or similar

Expected base salary: $70k - 100K, Eligible for bonus
