About MotherDuck

Don’t let the quirky name fool you! We’re on a mission to radically transform the data analyst user experience. We empower and delight analysts using a novel cloud architecture built on top of DuckDB, an open source foundation with a vibrant community. Our team is a diverse mix of passionate, collaborative and empathetic data industry veterans from Google, Amazon, Meta, Snowflake, Looker, SingleStore, Databricks, and the like.

What you will do

At MotherDuck, we’re building a delightful, cloud-native analytics platform powered by DuckDB—and we know that great products start with great people. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for an experienced Talent Partner who can help us scale our flock by finding, engaging, hiring and supporting exceptional talent across various MotherDuck teams.

This isn’t just about filling roles—it’s about building long-lasting relationships, designing magical candidate experiences, and helping us define what great looks like as we grow. You’ll partner closely with hiring managers, work across functions, and bring a thoughtful, empathetic approach to every search you touch.

This role is based in our Seattle HQ.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own and drive full-cycle recruiting for various teams as hiring demands shift – from GTM teams (Sales, Marketing, Customer Success) to Technical roles in Engineering and Product as well as occasional G&A.

  • Partner with hiring managers to deeply understand their needs and help define what success looks like in each role

  • Develop sourcing strategies that balance speed and quality, whether you're hiring at scale or hunting for that one-in-a-million duck

  • Be the go-to partner on everything hiring—from job descriptions to scheduling to compensation strategy to candidate debriefs

  • Create high-touch candidate experiences that are clear, kind, and leave people saying “wow” (even when it’s a no)

  • Help build our employer brand through events, communities, and connections

  • Use data and instincts to track progress, identify roadblocks, and improve our hiring systems as we scale

What you bring
  • A track record of success owning full-cycle searches across multiple functions with a strong focus on GTM and Technical roles. You’ve hired standout Sales and Marketing talent, and you’re comfortable enough in Engineering to tell a mutex from a method.

  • Experience in high-growth, early-stage environments. You understand what kind of talent thrives on the complexity, ambiguity, and opportunity that come with building from the ground up.

  • Experience owning complex, varied searches. Some high-volume, some highly specialized

  • High agency: you don’t wait to be told what to do, and you’re comfortable with a little ambiguity in your pond

  • Exceptional communication and EQ. You build trust fast and keep stakeholders looped in without being asked

  • A strong sense of craft in recruiting. You know what a great process feels like and how to deliver one

  • Community-builder energy. You’re someone who keeps good people close, even when you don’t have an open role

What people should be saying if you’re doing ducking awesome
  • “They somehow make even the toughest search feel like smooth sailing.”

  • “They're the hiring manager whisperer, always two steps ahead with thoughtful insights.”

  • “Candidates rave about them. Even when we didn’t extend an offer, people said they’d recommend us to friends.”

  • “They’re a connector. Half our best hires came through their network or referrals.”

  • “They move fast, never drop a feather, and somehow still find time to write great candidate updates.”

What we provide
  • Feather-ruffling compensation – competitive salary and stock options so you have a stake in our flock’s success.

  • Top-notch healthcare coverage – 100% paid medical, dental, and vision for employees, plus 80% coverage for dependents (because we care about your whole nest).

  • Flexible PTO – take the time you need to recharge, explore, or just have a lazy day by the pond.

  • 401k plan – because even ducks need to plan for the future.

  • Legendary company events – we bring the whole flock together twice a year for unforgettable summits in fun locations, plus 1-2 team gatherings a year to keep our bonds strong.

  • Hybrid work environment – Spend three days a week in the office collaborating with the flock, and work from wherever you’re most productive the rest of the time—whether that’s your home office, a coffee shop, or a peaceful lakeside retreat.

Please Apply

Does this role sound appealing to you, but you’re missing some of the requirements or don’t quite think you’re qualified?  Please apply anyway. Research has shown that underrepresented groups in technology often shy away from roles which aren’t a 100% match. We aim to build a diverse team and will strongly consider applicants who bring many of the requirements plus have other experiences which round out their qualifications.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.
