Who we are looking for
A proven executive leader with strong business and operations expertise to serve as Vice President Engines Thesis. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for initially building and targeting the rapidly growing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) market. With few affordable, quality UAV engines currently produced domestically, this role requires a strategic operator who can support acquisition planning and integration, manage geographically dispersed operations with hundreds of employees, drive P&L performance, and establish Re:Build as a leader in domestic UAV engine design and manufacturing at scale. While UAV engines are expected to serve as the initial focus and core platform for this initiative, the role is anticipated to expand over time to support additional engine-related opportunities in adjacent markets.
What you get to do
- Develop a compelling 5-year strategic plan outlining Re:Build’s Engines Thesis end-state and a roadmap for achieving sustainable growth.
- Define the scope of technology and manufacturing capabilities required to serve the dual-use UAV engine market, determining how far upstream and downstream we will integrate in the value chain.
- Evaluate market opportunities in both military and commercial UAV applications, and adjacent markets, and position Re:Build to capture maximum value in dual-use technologies.
- Drive decisions on R&D investments in propulsion technologies, novel materials, automation, and innovative manufacturing processes to secure competitive advantages in the sector.
- Provide operational and strategic insights during evaluation of acquisition targets, including assessment of capabilities, customer relationships, and integration feasibility.
- Analyze global supply chain risks and develop contingency plans or alternative sourcing strategies.
- Develop budgets, financial plans, and performance metrics, giving regular updates on progress and critical path items.
- Craft the organizational structure of the Engines Thesis, and recruit and lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.
- Partner with the Chief Commercial Officer to establish and implement commercial strategies, including government relations and potential dedicated business development resources.
- Leverage Re:Build Member Company capabilities to accelerate product development and manufacturing efforts.
- Present arguments, cases, and updates to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other collaborators.
What you bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Business, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA, MS Engineering) strongly preferred.
- Over 15 years of progressive leadership experience in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, propulsion systems, or related sectors.
- Deep knowledge of UAV technology, engine systems (internal combustion or hybrid), manufacturing processes, supply chains, and regulatory environments are highly desirable.
- Demonstrated success in planning and developing business opportunities and being responsible for complex technology projects.
- Previous P&L responsibility and experience developing and managing budgets and financial plans.
- Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to engage and influence diverse collaborators.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
- Alignment with the Re:Build Way.
- Willingness to be based at one of Re:Build’s existing sites and travel frequently (30%+) to geographically dispersed engines locations.
