About Teal
Teal Communications, Inc. (“Teal”) is a high-growth technology company that builds cloud-native network software to connect Physical AI & IoT devices to data networks globally. Teal has been named to the Inc. 5000 and Deloitte Technology Fast 500 as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States (#1 in the Seattle metro area and #9 among U.S. software companies).

The Opportunity
We’re looking for a VP of Finance to build and lead a high-performing finance organization and take a hands-on role in corporate development through Series B and beyond. You will own FP&A, accounting, fundraising, and finance operations, and translate strategy into plans, plans into capital, and capital into outcomes.
This role reports to the Chief Business Officer, works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, and has regular exposure to the Board of Directors.
What You’ll Do:
  • Financial Strategy & Leadership: Build, lead, and scale the finance and accounting function, driving capital efficiency and long-term financial health. You will own Teal’s financial operating system end-to-end.
  • FP&A and Modeling: Own the operating model, annual budget, and rolling forecast. Deliver the planning, reporting, and scenario analysis that drive strategic decisions across the company.
  • Accounting & Compliance: Own the accounting function with internal and outsourced accountants — month-end close, GAAP reporting, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and tax compliance. Ensure accurate, timely reporting while identifying efficiencies across the P&L.
  • Audit Readiness: Lead Teal through its first full external financial audit. You will stand up the controls, documentation, working papers, and reporting cadence that a public-company-track business requires.
  • Fundraising & Investor Relations: Partner with the CEO & CBO on fundraising, leading the operating model, data room, and management presentation, managing diligence, and owning the financial narrative for new and existing investors.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the financial voice of the business, partnering with Product, GTM, and Engineering to shape the roadmap around unit economics and the efficiency metrics that drive new business and retention.
  • Capital Strategy: Evaluate and execute equity, venture debt, and non-dilutive capital options, and support M&A activity, including diligence, valuation, modeling, and integration.
  • Systems & Operations: Own the finance tech stack — ERP, billing, expense, equity, BI — and the processes (procurement, contracting, order-to-cash) required to scale the business.
  • Treasury & Cash Management: Own cash, burn, and runway forecasting; manage banking relationships, treasury policy, and covenant compliance on any debt facilities.
  • Board Reporting: Prepare monthly and quarterly board packages and partner with the CEO & CBO on board meetings, including audit committee formation as the company matures.
  • Pricing & Unit Economics: Partner with GTM on pricing, deal structure, and contract terms for usage-based connectivity revenue, and own gross margin analysis, including carrier and network costs.
  • Equity & Global Entities: Oversee the cap table, 409A valuations, and equity administration, and manage multi-entity, international tax, sales tax, and transfer pricing considerations as Teal expands globally.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Deep Financial Experience: 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior leadership at a venture-backed B2B technology company, with technical depth in corporate finance, GAAP, SaaS and usage-based metrics, with the ability to navigate complex financial scenarios.
  • Fundraising Experience: Proven experience leading venture financing rounds end-to-end, with a track record of successful diligence management and investor relationship building.
  • Strategic & Tactical Ability: You can define high-level financial strategy while remaining hands-on enough to dive into models, billing configurations, and contract reviews.
  • Audit Experience: You have prepared a company for and successfully led it through a meaningful external audit — including working papers, technical accounting memos, and auditor management.
  • Team Leadership: You have built and managed a finance team, hiring ahead of scale and developing people while balancing in-house and outsourced resources.
Bonus Points For:
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA.
  • Experience taking a company through a Series B to Series C/D.
  • Experience in networking, telecommunications, Physical AI, IoT, or eSIM markets.
  • Prior VP of Finance and/or CFO experience or a clear path to a CFO seat.
Compensation
Teal offers competitive salaries, comprehensive health benefits, and equity packages.
  • Total target compensation: $200,000–$300,000 annually, depending on experience
  • Equity participation and comprehensive benefits
  • Actual compensation will depend on experience, skills, and other job-related factors.

Location: Kirkland, Washington. We expect this role to work closely with the team from our Kirkland headquarters at least two days per week in person, with limited travel as needed.
Teal is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
