About the role

As Controller at Scribe, you will be a key leader on the finance team, building a world-class accounting function and scaling our processes and systems. Reporting to the Head of Finance & Operations, you will ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll set best practices, drive automation, and support strategic decision-making in a fast-paced environment. You will design and execute a roadmap that scales the accounting function from startup to mature company.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills paired with excellent operational execution, a strategic mindset, and a track record of success in startup environments.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and scale the accounting function at a high-growth SaaS company, overseeing all reporting, processes, controls, and systems.

  • Build and grow the various disciplines within a growing business, including Financial Reporting, Technical Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, International Accounting, Corporate Accounting and Consolidations, and Tax, Treasury and Risk, etc.

  • Own and optimize the month-end, quarter-end, and annual close processes, ensuring GAAP compliance and accurate internal/external reporting.

  • Oversee general accounting processes and general ledger activities, including review and documentation of journal entries and account reconciliations, financial operations, and tax compliance.

  • Independently manage external audits, leading the completion of our first audit and ongoing compliance.

  • Ensure the accounting function has the appropriate tech stack and internal processes to scale with the business.

  • Implement systems to improve efficiency, shorten close cycles, and support growth with scalable, automated processes.

  • Partner with FP&A and other business owners to provide insight into actual financial results to inform forecasting and planning.

  • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.

You could be a great fit if

You’re a builder, problem-solver, and leader who thrives in high-growth environments. You have strong accounting fundamentals and are eager to see a startup from rapid growth through IPO. You see beyond journal entries—you’re excited to design scalable systems and processes that power a world-class accounting function.

You love a fast-paced, high-impact role where problem-solving, judgment, and prioritization are key. This is your chance to define best practices from the ground up, driving improvements across controls, reporting, audit readiness, and financial operations.

You’re risk-aware and relentless about maintaining tight internal controls and the integrity of the company’s books and records. Accuracy, efficiency, and compliance aren’t just checkboxes for you—they’re the backbone of a successful company.

You own your work and move fast. You don’t just maintain processes—you optimize them. Whether it’s reducing costs, increasing efficiency, or leveraging automation, you’re always thinking ahead and making things better.

You’re a doer with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, tackling challenges of any size with independence, energy, and urgency. No task is too big or too small—you bring the same level of drive whether you’re leading cross-functional initiatives or diving into the details.

Above all, you believe great accounting is more than numbers—it’s about telling a clear and verifiable financial story. If you want to build something impactful, scalable, and lasting, we want to hear from you.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA required.

  • 10-15 years of accounting experience across Big 4 and industry; high-growth startup or tech industry experience is preferred.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
