At Veracyte, we offer exciting career opportunities for those interested in joining a pioneering team that is committed to transforming cancer care for patients across the globe. Working at Veracyte – whether it be in one of our labs, corporate offices, the field – enables our employees to not only make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients, but to also learn and grow within a results-driven environment that values innovation, collaboration, and compassion.

The Position:

Veracyte is seeking exceptional candidates for a summer internship as a bioinformatics/computational biologist working with the Discovery Research team. As an intern you’ll collaborate with both laboratory and data scientists to develop and apply tools that extract insights from complex NGS assays. This role is ideal for someone passionate about translating high-dimensional and complex data into meaningful biological understanding in a collaborative research environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on, applied skills, in an industry setting and explore what it’s like to work inside an R&D team at an industry-leading diagnostics company. Strong mentorship will be provided throughout the entire research process and there will be opportunities to present findings to a broad audience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply sequence analysis methods to extract meaningful signal from raw NGS data.
  • Analyze and interpret high-dimensional datasets related to large-scale NGS cohorts.
  • Contribute to, and implement, novel data analysis pipelines supporting research initiatives.
  • Apply statistical and machine learning methods to explore biological and clinical datasets.
  • Explore the utility of novel bioinformatics capabilities to improve NGS diagnostics assays.
  • Visualize results to create clear summaries for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with researchers, data scientists, and computational biologists.
Who You Are:
  • Current Master's student or PhD candidate in a scientific or quantitative field (e.g., Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Cancer Biology, Genetics, etc.).
  • Strong background in sequence- or read-level analysis, including experience working with raw NGS data (e.g., alignment, quality control, contamination assessment).
  • Comfortable working in and provisioning cloud-based compute resources without heavy engineering support, preferably AWS (or GCP, Azure).
  • Capable of independently deploying open-source tools using Docker, Singularity, or Conda environments.
  • Proficient in common bioinformatics languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash, etc.).
  • Comfortable using interactive environments, such as Jupyter or RMarkdown, to explore data and clearly communicate findings to collaborators.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive in solving problems across the computational stack.

Location:

  • This is a remote friendly position in US or Canada
  • On-site office available in South San Francisco
