THE TEAM

The mission of Digital Technology is to design, build, deliver and operate robust, efficient, and scalable Digital technology solutions that align with our strategic, business and technology goals.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a member of the Digital Technology team, you will be responsible for architecting, designing, implementing, and continuously improving technology solutions. As an Engineering Manager, Customer Data, you will define integration patterns, lead technical discovery, and establish the structural integrity of our customer data ecosystem. This is a unique and highly exciting opportunity to build something from the ground up – shaping both the platform and the team that will support it. The role will begin with hands-on technical leadership to stand up the foundational infrastructure, and as the platform matures, your focus will transition to building out the team through recruiting, mentoring, and developing a dedicated squad of engineers to deliver against a shared technical vision. You will also be a key voice in our Digital Architecture forums and a strategic partner to Digital Product Management, accountable for building high-performing teams that deliver quality, reliable, secure and scalable technology products. With people at the heart of everything we do, you will support your high-potential people to grow rewarding careers at Aritzia — while enjoying one yourself.

THE ROLE

As the Senior Director/Director, Customer Data, you will:

  • Directly manage a squad of developers and QA engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management, ensuring the squad consistently delivers high quality work

  • Build a collaborative team culture through participating in hiring decisions, onboarding new team members, and creating individual development plans

  • Define and communicate the technical vision and roadmap for your product area, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural goals while ensuring alignment with broader platform strategy

  • Establish and uphold technical standards and system design principles, guiding architecture decisions, managing technical debt, and maintaining best practices through code reviews and structured processes

  • Partner cross-functionally with Product Managers and Designers to shape solutions, validate feasibility, and recommend technical approaches that enhance user experience

  • Drive delivery excellence through agile leadership, removing blockers, tracking team velocity and quality metrics, and communicating progress and commitments to stakeholders

  • Provide strategic technical support through selective hands-on coding for critical items, high-level code reviews, and advanced debugging, while serving as the escalation point for complex production issues and ensuring knowledge sharing across the team

THE QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior Director/Director, Customer Data has:

  • Expertise in GCP or AWS, modern cloud‑native architectures, and enterprise data platforms (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake), with strong data modeling and scalable architecture design capabilities

  • Proven experience implementing and operationalizing CDPs, aligning with marketing technology ecosystems, business objectives, and customer data regulations

  • Deep knowledge of data governance, privacy, and compliance, with the ability to define data activation frameworks enabling real‑time personalization and customer engagement

  • Strong expertise in enterprise integration patterns and API management using platforms such as Mulesoft, SAP CPI, Apigee, or AWS Gateway to enable secure, scalable data exchange

  • Solid grounding in modern software development (Java, Python, JavaScript), CI/CD pipelines, RESTful APIs, JSON, and contemporary development workflows supporting data‑driven services

  • Hands‑on experience with observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, SumoLogic), strong focus on cloud data security, and the ability to partner with analytics teams to deliver measurable, business‑driven data products

  • A commitment to learn, apply, champion and enrich Aritzia's Values and Business and People Leadership principles

  • The skills to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners in the pursuit of shared business outcomes

  • The ability to set clear objectives and design a strategy that inspires the team

  • A dedication to quality and investing in results and new business opportunities that add value

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
