WHO WE ARE: MagicSchool is the premier generative AI platform for teachers. We're just over 2 years old, and more than 7 million teachers from all over the world have joined our platform. Join a top team at a fast growing company that is working towards real social impact. Make an account and try us out at our website and connect with our passionate community on our Wall of Love.

MagicSchool is looking for a Director of Digital Marketing to build and lead our paid and organic acquisition engines. You will own how we reach two audiences: teachers who sign up and use MagicSchool every day, and the schools and districts that partner with us. You will manage a significant budget across paid search, paid social, and display, run our website strategy with a focus on conversion, and shape our lifecycle and email programs.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set the strategy, roll up your sleeves to optimize campaigns and channels, and manage a small team and of contractors and agency partners to deliver results you can measure. You will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and work closely with Sales, Customer Success, and Product.

Responsibilities
  • Drive B2C signups and adoption through paid digital channels, balancing volume, quality, and cost efficiency.

  • Generate top-of-funnel leads and pipeline for our B2B sales team across search, paid social, display, and other paid channels.

  • Own the website strategy and roadmap with a focus on conversion rate optimization, including automated A/B testing and publishing in Webflow.

  • Oversee lifecycle and email marketing strategy in partnership with marketing operations to improve activation and retention.

  • Manage and coach our paid digital agency and contractors so that performance is clear, consistent, and strong.

  • Build performance reporting across channels and turn the data into a clear story for leaders and partner teams.

  • Partner with Product, Customer Success, Sales, and the wider marketing team to keep digital marketing aligned with company goals.

Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills
  • Data fluency: You analyze performance data with ease and explain what it means and what to do next in plain language.

  • Ownership: You take full accountability for results and drive work from idea through execution.

  • Collaboration: You work well across marketing, sales, product, and customer success.

  • Coachability: You welcome feedback, apply it quickly, and keep raising the bar for yourself and your team.

  • Comfort with ambiguity: You make sound decisions with incomplete information and adjust as you learn.

  • Mission alignment: You care about improving education through technology.

Required Experience
  • Director-level experience managing a multi-million dollar marketing budget.

  • Several years of hands-on and managerial experience in search engine marketing (Google Ads and Bing Ads), with a record of ROI-positive campaigns across global markets.

  • Deep experience running paid social campaigns, especially on Meta and LinkedIn.

  • A proven ability to drive both B2C user acquisition and B2B demand generation.

  • Experience managing web developers and overseeing website strategy.

Nice to have: experience with Iterable or a similar lifecycle email platform, Webflow (including automated A/B testing and CMS publishing), reporting tools such as Looker, Metabase, Amplitude, or HockeyStack, a background in edtech or mission-driven SaaS, and experience briefing and managing creative production for paid campaigns.

Why Join Us?

  • Work on cutting-edge AI technology that directly impacts educators and students.

  • Join a mission-driven team passionate about making education more efficient and equitable.

  • Flexibility of working from home, while fostering a unique culture built on relationships, trust, communication, and collaboration with our team - no matter where they live.

For full time employees:

  • Unlimited time off to empower our employees to manage their work-life balance. We work hard for our teachers and users, and encourage our employees to rest and take the time they need.

  • Choice of employer-paid health insurance plans so that you can take care of yourself and your family. Dental and vision are also offered at very low premiums.

  • Every employee is offered generous stock options, vested over 4 years.

  • 401k match & monthly wellness stipend.

Our Values:

  • Educators are Magic:  Educators are the most important ingredient in the educational process - they are the magic, not the AI. Trust them, empower them, and put them at the center of leading change in service of students and families.

  • Joy and Magic: Bring joy and magic into every learning experience - push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI.

  • Community:  Foster community that supports one another during a time of rapid technological change. Listen to them and serve their needs.

  • Innovation:  The education system is outdated and in need of innovation and change - AI is an opportunity to bring equity, access, and serve the individual needs of students better than we ever have before.

  • Responsibility: Put responsibility and safety at the forefront of the technological change that AI is bringing to education.

  • Diversity: Diversity of thought, perspectives, and backgrounds helps us serve the wide audience of educators and students around the world.

  • Excellence:  Educators and students deserve the best - and we strive for the highest quality in everything we do.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
