Job Description

AECOM is seeking a GIS Specialist to make complex field information useful for federal facility assessment and hurricane recovery work in Kauai, Hawaii. Engineering teams may inspect damaged roofs and buildings, assess utilities and access routes, and define immediate repairs across multiple locations. You will turn inspection findings, photos, asset records, and field coordinates into maps and spatial data that show where damage occurred and what work remains. Your products will support the initial assessment report, help teams plan access and repair priorities, and give project leaders a clearer picture as conditions change.

This role will require an onsite presence in Kauai, Hawaii and is eligible for per diem related expenses when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain GIS maps, geodatabases, dashboards, and spatial datasets for facilities and infrastructure.
  • Integrate field survey information, photographs, inspection findings, and asset records into consistent GIS products.
  • Support mobile data collection and establish quality control procedures for field updates.
  • Prepare maps and exhibits for assessment reports, repair plans, site access, and construction coordination.
  • Analyze spatial data to identify affected facilities, utility corridors, access routes, and repair priorities.
  • Coordinate with engineers, construction managers, and field teams to resolve data gaps and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, geographic information systems, geospatial science, engineering, or a related field and 4+ years of GIS mapping and spatial data management for infrastructure, facilities, or construction projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  •  A valid driver’s license is required, along with the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check in accordance with company policy.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of GIS mapping and spatial data management for infrastructure, facilities, or construction projects.
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, or Survey123.
  • Experience with federal facility mapping, utility systems, or post event damage assessments.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
