What this job involves:

As a Horticulturist I on the Amazon Global Real Estate & Facilities (GREF) team, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day horticultural operations of The Spheres or Redmond Greenhouse while maintaining a commitment to JLL’s Leadership Behaviors. This role combines hands-on maintenance of mostly tropical plants displayed in high-profile areas. You'll work as a self-starter who operates comfortably on both strategic and tactical levels, simultaneously serving as an internal ambassador, educator, and implementer. The role requires passion and in-depth knowledge of the horticultural world, combined with experience in maintaining high-quality interior and exterior plant displays. What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Perform general horticulture maintenance within The Spheres, other interior planted spaces, exterior landscaping in Seattle, and/or Amazon Support Greenhouse facilities, including watering, planting, propagation, paludarium/aquarium maintenance, weeding, irrigation, pest control, pruning, and plant transport with a motor vehicle between locations under direction of Horticulturist II or III and/or Amazon staff
  • Assist other Horticulturists with projects and tasks such as installations, terrariums, living walls, exhibit creation, and plant propagation initiatives
  • Support plant procurement and acquisitions in accordance with Amazon's plant collection policy
  • Engage with Amazon employees, partners, and the public through assisting with educational discussions, events, and tours focused on plants, biophilia, conservation, and horticulture-related topics
  • Identify operational deficits and proactively notify management to correct issues
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities as directed by supervisors
  • Implement JLL’s leadership behaviors, best practices, and innovations
  • All additional duties commensurate to the level of the role

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, plant science, or related field, OR equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in horticulture, greenhouse plant production, or similar
  • Must meet highest attendance and punctuality requirements with reliable schedule adherence
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of tropical and temperate plants and their care requirements including basic understanding of plant nutrition, water quality management, and climate control systems
  • Knowledge of science-based horticultural practices including integrated pest management (IPM)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including professionalism, customer focus, collaboration, inclusivity, teamwork
  • Ability and willingness to engage with Amazonians and community members
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other software applications
  • Ability to detect emergency alarms through auditory and visual means
  • Physical capability to work under varying climatic conditions including rain, high heat, and humidity, at heights over 30 feet, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform manual labor as required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Greenhouse Location only: Valid (or ability to obtain) a forklift operator’s license

Desired or preferred experience and technical skills:

  • Experience with living wall installation and maintenance, paludarium and aquarium maintenance systems, and/or plant propagation and cultivation techniques
  • Hands-on experience implementing integrated pest management strategies
  • Experience working in corporate or institutional horticulture settings
  • Experience conducting educational tours or public presentations
  • Location: On-site

Estimated compensation for this position:

65,400.00 – 80,100.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
