The Marketing Lead will be SageOx’s first marketer, owning brand voice, social media, developer community engagement, product launches, events, founder amplification, and audience growth. The role involves building awareness for a new AI product category, organizing meetups and hackathons, measuring acquisition and engagement, running marketing experiments, and creating agent-assisted workflows. The candidate must be technically credible, deeply familiar with AI, comfortable with builders, and able to execute independently in an early-stage startup.
The summary above was generated by AI

SageOx is a well-funded, early-stage startup at the frontier of how AI is shaping the world. At SageOx, we believe the future of work is deeply human and collaborative. As agents take on execution, coordination, and routine work, people gain space for what only humans do well: creativity, judgment, relationships, the work of imagining, deciding, and creating together. Humans become not only more productive individually, but better at working with each other, leaning on their AI coworkers to carry out execution and raise the quality of how they collaborate.

We're looking for strategic hires - fearless, creative, independent thinkers - that will shape the future of the company, and how work is done in the modern world.

There's no trail yet. Pioneering and breaking trails is one of our company's core values. You're one of the first ten people cutting it.

Why this role exists

You'll be the first marketer at SageOx. There is no marketing team, no agency, no brand book with rules to follow - you’ll be the brain behind all that. We’re looking for an AI-pilled marketer who does not get defined by boundaries and applies creativity to push through the noise.

SageOx is creating a new product category, and this role is part of the creation. A category doesn't exist until people have words for it. Part of your work is finding what resonates, learning how to explain it, and teaching the market to see what we see. That work happens in two places in public: social media, where builders are comparing notes on agents every day, and events, where they meet each other and decide what's worth their attention. Your job is to make SageOx present, legible, and connected in both.

This role will morph over time as needs evolve. Your ultimate goal is to drive awareness of SageOx - that can be measured by customer acquisition, engagement on social media, and broader ecosystem reach.

Social—be where the conversation is
  • Own SageOx's voice on X and LinkedIn. Publish on cadence, every week: threads, posts, short video, and the occasional longer piece. The raw material comes from the founders, the team's own experiments with agents, customer stories, and shipped features; you turn it into things people actually read.

  • Be a real presence, where builders compare notes. Reddit, Hacker News, and the Discords and Slacks of the agent tools themselves — the Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and MCP communities. Show up as a person, be useful, know who the interesting voices are, and be one of them.

  • Run launches. When we ship something worth announcing, own the moment end to end — Hacker News, Product Hunt, the coordinated push across every channel, and the follow-through in the comments.

  • Amplify the founders and team. Identify the highest-impact platforms, podcasts, and moments for the founders and other team members to show up, get them there, and shape what they say so it lands.

  • Bring outside-in signal back. What people are asking, what they're confused by, who's comparing us to what — surfaced to the core team continuously. What you hear in public is a deliverable, not a byproduct.

Events—put SageOx in the room
  • Own event presence end to end. Pick the events worth being at across San Francisco, Seattle, and other builder hubs, and decide how we show up — talk, demo, booth, dinner, sponsorship, or just being there.

  • Host our own. Meetups, hackathons, workshops, and small dinners for the teams building with agents. Start small and repeatable; grow what works.

  • Turn every event into a pipeline. Know who's coming, who we met, and what happened after. An event that produced no conversations worth following up on is an event we shouldn't repeat.

  • Build the Seattle builder scene around us. Seattle has fewer natural gathering points for agent-heavy teams than San Francisco. Create some.

Systematize—measure, decide, repeat
  • Instrument everything. Define what a good week looks like — qualified signups sourced, conversations started, follow-ups from events — and report on it in a way the team can act on.

  • Run experiments, not campaigns. A new channel, a new format, a new event type: form a hypothesis, try it, measure it, keep it or kill it. A kill is a result.

  • Use agents to scale yourself. Research, drafting, monitoring, and reporting are all agent-assisted here. Build those workflows for yourself — without outsourcing judgment or voice to the agents.

  • Use SageOx daily and market from lived use, not talking points.

How this person operates
  • Driven by curiosity, courageous in experimenting, humble in success, excited for what AI enables our customers to do.

  • Embodies the SageOx values - you’ll be amongst the most recognized faces associated with the company.

  • Ships posts and events instead of producing marketing plans without execution.

  • Balances speed with taste. The goal is not maximum output; it is the right message to the right builders. In the age of AI slop, that often means editing and synthesizing rather than producing more.

  • Comfortable in a room full of engineers and builders, or in a thread full of skeptics. Asks sharp questions, listens, and changes direction when evidence contradicts the original idea.

  • Is resourceful and creative, finds solutions rather than waiting to inherit them.

  • Works well with founders and the team, communicates progress without excessive process, and makes the next decision clearer.

What we're looking for

We don't care which door you came through — social, community, developer relations, events, content, or building something of your own. We care that you can make a technical product legible to the people who need it and get them to show up.

  • 2–7 years in developer marketing, community, DevRel, social, or events — for a technical product with a builder audience. The title matters less than the evidence: audiences you've grown, events you've run, and what happened after.

  • Mission alignment: believes deeply in what SageOx is building. Lives and breathes the product every day, all day long.

  • Complete fluency with AI: you use AI throughout your own work, and you're curious and knowledgeable about the ecosystem — emerging technologies, products, practices. The pitch is only credible from a practitioner.

  • Has personally grown an audience, a community, or a channel somewhere. Show us.

  • Has run events people wanted to come back to — from a 10-person dinner to a hackathon.

  • Technical enough to be credible: you can explain what an MCP server is, demo the product, and follow an engineer's answer without needing it translated.

  • Thinks deeply, communicates clearly, writes well: AI slop is all around us — stand on your own thinking, clarity, and craft. Bonus if you're good on camera.

  • Strong sense of ownership: owns outcomes; makes things happen with limited resources; has a great sense of direction and prioritization amid the ambiguity of an early-stage startup.

  • Cultural fit: embodies SageOx's values.

Great to have
  • Already connected to the builder scene in Seattle, San Francisco, and online — you know who to invite.

  • An existing audience of your own among builders.

  • Founder or early-employee experience somewhere that grew fast.

  • Experience with open-source products or developer communities.

Location — Seattle or San Francisco, in person

In person, five days a week. We move fast and the work benefits enormously from being in the room. For this role, the room is often an event, and half of them are in San Francisco — so either city works, and you'll spend real time in both.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
