Akamai is looking for a Principal UX Designer to shape the end-to-end experience of Akamai Cloud. You will bring a proven track record of turning complex problems into intuitive products that improve customer outcomes and drive business results.

Partner with the best

As a Principal UX Designer, you will set design direction for major products and workflows while staying hands-on throughout delivery. Our customers move between the console, APIs, CLI, and documentation. You will make that journey coherent, efficient, and easy to navigate while partnering across multidisciplinary teams.

As a Principal User Experience Designer, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting a clear experience vision and strategic direction for major product initiatives
  • Leading design from exploration through launch while delivering implementation-ready interfaces and shaping documentation experiences
  • Simplifying complex workflows and resolving cross-product friction that slows customer progress and adoption
  • Partnering with product and engineering leaders to prioritize design work, navigate tradeoffs, and align dependencies
  • Using generative and evaluative research, product analytics, and customer insights to guide and validate design decisions

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in UX/UI design or a related field
  • Possess a portfolio of work that translates complex problems into intuitive, cohesive experiences for enterprise software
  • Demonstrate solid hands-on skills in interaction design, visual design, and prototyping
  • Demonstrate experience setting design direction, aligning cross-functional teams, and communicating design decisions clearly
  • Have experience designing for technical users, such as developers or cloud and infrastructure teams

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
