Job Description SummaryGE Vernova is accelerating the path to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy, while helping our customers power economies and deliver the electricity that is vital to health, safety, security, and improved quality of life. Are you excited at the opportunity to electrify and decarbonize the world?
As a senior leader within Software & Controls Solutions (SCS), you will own the technology foundation that underpins the organization's product portfolio — leading the software engineering, UX, and platform capabilities that enable SCS to build, deliver, and scale world-class digital products. You will set the technical direction across engineering execution, user experience, platform reliability, and security — while building an organization designed to grow as SCS's portfolio and ambitions expand.

Job Description

[What you'll do

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive capacity strategy to significantly increase engineering output — Execute the talent roadmap, geographic expansion, and external partnerships to close the capability gap and meet long-range growth targets.
  • Define and execute the technology strategy for SCS — setting the technical direction across software engineering, platform architecture, user experience, and emerging technology adoption to ensure the organization builds products that are reliable, scalable, and differentiated.
  • Own software engineering execution and platform health — driving release predictability, SaaS availability, defect reduction, and security compliance across the product portfolio, ensuring engineering delivers with quality and rigor.
  • Lead the UX function through its evolution into a mature, research-driven discipline — building world-class capabilities in user research, design, and accessibility that embed the customer perspective into every product decision.
  • Drive the adoption of AI and emerging technologies across the engineering and UX organizations — including Generative AI in the software development lifecycle, AI-assisted design workflows, and automation that accelerates delivery and improves developer and designer productivity.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, quality frameworks, and security practices across the organization — including test automation, release governance, cybersecurity compliance, and accessibility standards.
  • Partner with Product Management, Commercial, and Services leadership to align technology investments with business priorities — ensuring engineering and UX capacity is directed toward the highest-value opportunities.
  • Build and scale a high-performing technology organization — attracting, developing, and retaining top engineering and UX talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

What you'll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in software engineering or technology leadership, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles managing multi-disciplinary technical teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading software engineering organizations delivering complex SaaS or digital products at scale, with accountability for platform reliability, quality, and security.
  • Proven ability to build and scale technology teams and capabilities in a fast-evolving product environment.

What will make you stand out

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration.
  • Experience leading both software engineering and UX/design functions within a product organization.
  • Track record of driving AI and Generative AI adoption within engineering workflows and product development.
  • Deep expertise in SaaS platform architecture, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience leading technology organizations through significant transformation — including shifts from project-based to product-led operating models.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and experience embedding inclusive design practices into product development.
  • Background in industrial software, energy technology, or power generation applications.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
