Overview

We are looking for a Senior Business Planner to join the Monetization and Business Planning (M+BP) team which is responsible for monetization strategy, pricing, and packaging constructs for products representing over $100 billion of annual revenue.

In this role you will drive monetization innovation for our commercial One Drive and SharePoint portfolio. AI is moving beyond answering questions toward helping people carry out work. The proposal a team is writing, the plan it is refining, and the files it shares are essential context for that work, when access is trusted and appropriately governed. That puts OneDrive and SharePoint at a compelling intersection of AI, collaboration, content, and storage. For a business planner, the challenge is concrete: understand what customers value as these experiences evolve, then translate that value and the economics of storage into simple, sustainable business models.

This is a visible, cross‑functional role that combines strategic thinking, analytical rigor, and executive‑level communication to support growth, simplicity, and scalability of SharePoint and One Drive and the overall M365 business.

In this role you will partner with product, engineering, sales, marketing, and finance leaders to shape portfolio direction, guide investment decisions, and ensure business outcomes are clearly understood and delivered.

As a Senior Business Planner, you will deliver impact by:

  • Collaborating with engineering to turn new IP and product roadmaps into revenue, growth, and profitability for Microsoft

  • Creating and owning business model frameworks that align with customer value

  • Optimizing customer experience through new commerce innovation

  • Creating incentive structures for our ecosystem to deliver value for end-customers.

  • Developing offer strategies to accelerate cross-cloud adoption and new user growth

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional teams to land monetization strategy, pricing decisions, and packaging constructs for your product areas:

  • Collaborate with product engineering and product marketing on product vision, offer strategy and packaging constructs

  • Partner with finance to determine the revenue and customer lifetime value impact of business model decisions

  • Conduct market research to understand total addressable market, competitive dynamics, optimal customer segmentation, and customer willingness to pay

  • Engage with our Operations & Business Insights team to optimize pricing and launch products across hundreds of regions worldwide

  • Collaborate with other storage-related business planners across Microsoft to connect cross-product dependencies, including those relevant to AI experiences, and develop coherent customer-value propositions and monetization principles

  • Partner with the New Commerce and Commercial Strategy team to develop and land new business models with commerce engineering and sales organizations

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
