Senior Electrical Designer (Revit)

Brown and Caldwell (BC), a leading environmental engineering firm, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Designer to join our growing team. The successful candidate will work directly with electrical engineers and designers to support our multidisciplinary engineering and project management teams on 2D and 3D electrical and/or I&C designs for facilities primarily serving the water and wastewater industries for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. The Senior Electrical Designer has responsibility for the design and development of complex electrical systems utilizing Revit and AutoCAD, including wiring diagrams and electrical system layouts, along with assisting less experienced team members. This role ensures designs meet regulatory requirements, project specifications and design gate requirements. The role applies skills to complete a broad range of tasks and often completes assignments with limited supervision and exercises latitude for independent judgement. The role can make decisions limited to a narrow scope of responsibilities as determined by a licensed engineer. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in electrical or instrumentation and control design using AutoCAD, Plant3D, Revit, and BIM, field services including site-specific electrical field data gathering experience for electrical design development, along with experience supervising and mentoring of newer design staff. The candidate should have the ability to travel to site(s) for purposes of field data gathering services. 

Hybrid work is preferred but remote work is allowed; the selected candidate will be located in either Mountain or Pacific time zones, ideally within commuting distance from one of our offices.

Responsibilities

• Execute tasks related to electrical drawing development.
• Perform cable tray and conduit design.
• Assist with the layout of electrical equipment.
• Carry out lighting, devices, and circuit design.
• Develop competence in using Revit / AutoCAD.
• Actively engage in cross discipline model coordination.
• Understand the level of detail required at various project design gates/milestones.
• Manage schedules related to electrical equipment and panels.
• Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Mentorship

• May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency in electrical drawing development and equipment layout.
• Demonstrated skill in cable tray and conduit design, as well as lighting, devices, and circuit design.
• Ability to utilize Revit/AutoCAD effectively.
• Understanding of the level of detail required at various project design gates/milestones.

Experience

• Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of electrical design or related experience.

Preferred Experience

• 8+ years of experience with power distribution system design, electrical equipment layout, conduit layout, lighting design, controls design, and grounding design, in an industrial setting.
• Prior experience working in the municipal water / wastewater and/or industrial clients.
• Production experience in 3D/BIM design with experience in 3D modeling using REVIT.
• Proficient in using AutoCAD or Bentley for creating design and construction drawings.
• Field Data Gathering Experience - hands‑on experience conducting on‑site surveys, inspections, and data collection activities to support electrical design development.
• Demonstrated use or exposure to SQL database-oriented data management in production drawings.
• Strong knowledge of drafting standards typically used by large municipal organizations.
• Good understanding of the National Electric Code.
• Understanding and experience with Process and Instrumentation Control Diagram (P&ID) development in AutoCAD Plant 3D or Bentley OpenPlant PID.
• Understanding and experience with electrical safety, NFPA 70E.
• Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally.
• High level of communication and strong writing skills.

Education

• An associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology, electrical drafting, or related field or equivalent experience is required.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.  

Location A: $30.70 - $41.90
Location B: $34.10 - $46.20
Location C: $37.00 - $50.50
