About Us

Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets by automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners—specifically in cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audits. We build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.

We're based in San Francisco, CA, and we're backed by Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, and more. Over 50 of the top 100 accounting and consulting firms trust Fieldguide to power mission-critical work.

About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, Platform at Fieldguide, you will lead the team that builds the foundational platform powering Fieldguide: the core services, APIs, shared primitives, and developer tooling that make it fast, safe, and consistent to deliver new capabilities to customers. Every product surface and AI agent at Fieldguide is built on this platform.

You will lead ten engineers (including Senior and Staff ICs), set the platform roadmap, and work with product, design, AI, and infrastructure leaders to decide where platform investment creates the most leverage. Your team's work directly shapes how Fieldguide ships quickly for our largest enterprise customers while keeping systems reliable and scalable.

You'll report to our Senior Director of Platform Engineering.

Our engineering hub is in San Francisco. This role is open to remote candidates anywhere in the US; Bay Area-based employees will work in a hybrid setting.

What You’ll Own
  • Building, leading, and growing a high-performing platform engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development.

  • Setting the platform vision and roadmap, and prioritizing investments across core services, shared primitives, and internal developer tooling based on customer and engineering needs.

  • Owning the architecture strategy for delivering product capabilities across our SaaS, enterprise single-tenant, and government-cloud environments, working with your Staff engineers and tech leads on key decisions.

  • Partnering directly with product, design, and AI engineering leaders to translate customer needs into platform investments and to make clear build vs. leave-to-product-teams vs. buy tradeoffs.

  • Driving cross-team initiatives that improve product velocity, system reliability, and consistency across the application.

  • Establishing standards for service design, data modeling, and platform integration patterns, and making sure teams actually adopt them.

  • Overseeing the internal developer platform, including deployment tooling and agentic engineering capabilities.

  • Owning the team's operational health: reliability targets, incident response, on-call, and delivery predictability.

  • Defining team-level success metrics and communicating progress and tradeoffs to executive leadership.

Who You Are
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years managing engineers, ideally including managers or multiple teams.

  • Significant experience building product-facing platforms or foundational application services, with enough technical depth to review designs, challenge tradeoffs, and earn the respect of Staff-level engineers.

  • A track record of hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers, and of raising the bar through coaching and performance management.

  • Strong product instincts and a history of shipping platform capabilities that unlocked meaningful customer outcomes.

  • Experience setting technical strategy and roadmap across multiple teams, and driving alignment with product, design, and executive stakeholders.

  • Fluency with modern cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, and distributed systems.

  • Excellent judgment on what to build into the platform, what to leave to product teams, and what to buy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Bonus Points
  • Experience leading teams that build platforms for AI-native products, including agent frameworks, model orchestration, or LLM-powered application surfaces

  • Experience with platforms supporting both multi-tenant SaaS and single-tenant enterprise deployments

  • Experience as a founding or early platform leader at a vertical SaaS or enterprise AI company

Benefits
  • Competitive compensation with equity

  • Comprehensive health and wellness benefits

  • Flexible time off and work schedules

  • Technology reimbursements

  • 401(k) plan

  • Twice-yearly in-person offsites across the U.S.

  • Wellness benefits starting on your first day

Our Values
  • Fearless — Inspire and break down seemingly impossible walls

  • Fast — Launch fast with excellence; iterate to perfection

  • Lovable — Deliver happiness and 11-star experiences

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
