As we target 4x growth over the next four years, you'll have unprecedented opportunities to take on new challenges, develop cutting-edge skills, and grow your career across our expanding global operations.

Join our team of innovators and help shape the future of sustainable data centers while building a career without boundaries.

We are seeking a Senior EPMS Design Engineer who thinks in terms of scalable, mission-critical systems and high-reliability operational architectures. As a senior member of the Controls Design Engineering (CDE) team, you will own the technical development, design standardization, and system integration of Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) across our global fleet.

In this role, you will bridge the gap between electrical design concepts, controls engineering, and operational reality. You will serve as the primary owner for global EPMS specifications, network architectures, and control logic—ensuring that our critical power infrastructure (including switchgear, generators, UPS lineups, and distribution units) delivers robust telemetry, fault visibility, and automated power monitoring for hyperscale environments.

Key Accountabilities

    • Design & Architecture Governance: Author and maintain detailed EPMS design deliverables, including network architecture diagrams, Sequences of Operation (SOO), Basis of Design (BOD) documents, input/output (I/O) points lists, and project scopes of work (SOW).

    • Standards & Specifications: Own and maintain company-wide Division 25 (Integrated Automation) and Division 26 (Electrical) EPMS specifications, standardized drawing templates, and telemetry schemas.

    • Engineering Document & Drawing Reviews: Review detailed MEP design drawing packages—with a deep focus on electrical single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and control schematics—to ensure complete EPMS coverage, redundancy, and metering alignment.

    • Submittal & Long Lead Equipment (LLE) Audits: Review electrical equipment manufacturer submittals (switchgear, UPS systems, PDU/RPP units, generators, ATS) to ensure factory-installed meters, protection relays, and gateways comply with communication and telemetry standards.

    • Vendor & Bid Coordination: Create detailed EPMS vendor scopes of work, review technical proposals during contractor bidding, evaluate control system integrators, and manage technical Requests for Information (RFIs) to drive down scope gaps and change orders.

    • Hardware & Communications Architecture: Specify control panel requirements, PLC hardware lineups, and communication protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet/IP, and TCP/IP), ensuring optimal bus capacity and network segmentation.

    • Cross-Functional Integration: Define integration strategies linking EPMS to industrial PLCs, Building Management Systems (BMS), Branch Circuit Monitoring Systems (BCMS), and cloud telemetry brokers (e.g., MQTT / Sparkplug B architectures).

    • Testing & Quality Assurance: Participate in Factory Witness Tests (FWTs) and Equipment Qualification Tests (EQTs) to validate point mapping and EPMS device functionality on first-of-kind electrical assemblies.

    • Commissioning & Construction Support: Conduct QA/QC audits on active builds, supporting commissioning agents through L1–L5 testing phases, point-to-point checkout validation, and final "As-Built" package reviews prior to Ready For Service (RFS) handoff.

    • Operational Root-Cause Support: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) to diagnose complex system anomalies, including Loss of Visibility (LOV), Loss of Resilience (LOR), or power metering discrepancies.

Required Skills

    • Experience: 5+ years of direct experience in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) design, engineering, or systems integration within data centers or mission-critical facilities.

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or commensurate industry/military experience in lieu of degree.

    • Engineering Documentation: Demonstrated expertise in generating and interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, control network schematics, sequences of operation, control panel layouts, and Bills of Materials (BOM).

    • Protocols & Industrial Networks: Strong working knowledge of industrial communication protocols including Modbus (RTU and TCP), BACnet (MS/TP and IP), and Ethernet TCP/IP networking.

    • System Knowledge: Hands-on design fluency with PLC-based EPMS architectures, Branch Circuit Monitoring Systems (BCMS), and power metering hardware.

    • Specifications: Demonstrable experience authoring or interpreting CSI Division 25 and Division 26 specifications.

Preferred Skills

    • 7+ years of progressive engineering experience within hyperscale or colocation data center infrastructure.

    • Deep understanding of critical data center electrical infrastructure, including medium/low voltage switchgear lineups, static transfer switches (STS), UPS lineups, transformers, power distribution units (PDUs), and utility/generator paralleling logic.

    • Familiarity with cloud data aggregation models and modern telemetry brokers (e.g., MQTT, Sparkplug B, Inductive Automation Ignition).

    • Experience participating in L1–L5 commissioning cycles, Integrated System Testing (IST), and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

Work Location & Travel Expectations

    • Location: Flexible; preferences include primary operational hubs (Georgia, Texas, or Arkansas).

    • Travel: Up to 25% travel to global data center construction sites, equipment manufacturing facilities for Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and corporate functions.

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
