As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, you will design and develop secure mobile applications for public sector partners, ensuring they meet government standards for privacy and accessibility.
SpruceID builds privacy-preserving, standards-based digital identity and credentialing solutions that give individuals control of their information while enabling governments and enterprises to deliver secure, interoperable services. We partner with public-sector organizations to modernize how identity is issued, verified, and used.
As a Forward Deployed Mobile Engineer, you will focus on building and deploying mobile applications that put SpruceID’s technology directly into the hands of people engaging with their governments. You will work closely with state governments, public sector partners, and SpruceID teams to design and deliver secure, private, and accessible mobile experiences. This role combines hands-on development with customer-facing delivery, ensuring mobile applications meet high technical standards and real-world public sector needs.
This job is fully remote within the US.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain mobile applications for iOS and Android using frameworks such as Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, or React Native
- Ensure mobile apps meet government requirements for security, privacy, accessibility, and reliability
- Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate APIs and services into robust mobile experiences
- Translate customer and policy requirements into mobile-first product designs and implementations
- Work closely with UX designers to deliver intuitive and inclusive user experiences for public sector audiences
- Partner with customer delivery leads to ensure successful deployments, testing, and operations in production environments
- Contribute to standards adoption by ensuring mobile implementations align with global digital identity protocols
- Provide technical guidance to public sector partners on mobile app deployment, security, and operations
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building and shipping production mobile apps for iOS and/or Android
- Proficiency in at least one mobile development stack: Swift, Kotlin, Flutter, or React Native
- Experience building backend services and APIs, and integrating mobile apps
- Strong understanding of mobile security, including secure storage, authentication, and encryption practices
- Experience with low-level protocols such as Bluetooth or NFC
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design practices for mobile apps
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers, ideally in consulting or delivery contexts
- Based in the US and willing to engage directly with state government partners
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience delivering mobile solutions in public sector or other highly regulated environments
- Knowledge of identity standards and protocols such as OAuth, OpenID Connect, or mDL (mobile driver’s license)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and mobile app deployment practices
