Your Opportunity

Our Federal Buildings sector group is seeking qualified candidates to support our growing practice. Stantec is #1 of the Top 100 Architecture Engineering Firms (BD&C 2025) and #1 of the Top 20 West Top Design Firms by Market Sector – Architecture (ENR West 2025) and a Top 10 global design firm in our Federal Buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, Urban, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to clients that include NAVFAC, USACE, USCG, NGB, GSA, and more. 

We are seeking a Senior Project Architect to join our integrated buildings practice. This position will contribute to Stantec's success by leading the AE team in planning, executing, and delivering projects ranging from $30 million to over $200 million in construction values. This role is expected to use sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and effective tools and techniques to execute and deliver projects. You will be the technical lead for the Buildings/AE team and will work collaboratively with the project manager to deliver timely best-value projects.  

Your experience ensures that you are familiar with all phases of project development and capable of leading the production of design and contract documents. You will be innovating and creating new prototypes designed with sustainable products with green architecture sensibility as your goals. You will participate in the development of integrated design proposals, continuously updating and overseeing a building information model, and preparing a variety of output/drawings throughout the project, while leading and mentoring others and collaborating with team members to contribute to the final deliverables as required under instruction from the project manager. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Execute and deliver well-coordinated project documents as a project architect on time. 
  • Manage a team in producing architectural design solutions and construction drawings. 
  • Manage a group of architectural staff, leading project meetings, and coordinating all other building disciplines (in-house and external) on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Mentor architectural staff.
  • Being the architectural technical lead and performing internal reviews and quality checks of the models and drawings to ensure completeness and compliance with design criteria and codes as well as manage time to meet project budget and schedule. 
  • Provide technical and administrative oversight to ensure that both the internal and external client needs are met and that the projects are delivered within cost, quality and schedule targets.
  • Manage the financial aspect of the project including planning, scheduling, forecasting and staffing and working with accounting to achieve the desired results.
  • Be the client’s trusted partner to provide technical knowledge of codes and standards, building systems, and materials.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats. 
  • Utilize BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components. 
  • Participate in design critiques and pin-ups. 
  • Interpret and apply building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies. 
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various architectural phases including site plans, floor plans, building elevations, building sections, details, specifications, etc. 
  • Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to RFIs, prepare site observation reports, and other contract administration tasks. 
Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Licensed architects, in the State of Washington.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience as a project architect.
  • Familiar with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), State of WA building codes, and International Building Codes.
  • Capable of managing a team in producing architectural design solutions, construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Capable of leading design-build and design-bid-build project delivery method.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards. 
  • Capable of leading client project requirement meetings, value analysis, basic cost estimating, and constructability reviews.
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought. 
  • Ability to sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively. 
  • Ability to communicate abstract ideas (verbal/written). 
  • Ability to lead teams and collaborate effectively while working remotely. 
  • Strong presentation and interview skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, Bluebeam Studio, and BIM 360.

 Work Location

  • Seattle, WA.
  • Hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
  • Holds architect license in the State of Washington and in good standings.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience as a project architect. 
  • Experienced in both design-build, progressive design-build and design-bid-build project delivery method.
  • Experienced with Federal DoD design and execution requirement.
  • LEED accreditations are pluses.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean MVR

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
