Job Description
At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We're committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.
The Systems Engineering, Integration & Test (SEIT) Team Lead will be leading the Center of Excellence and Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for the Sapphire program and provide hands-on technical and programmatic leadership for the SEIT organization supporting the Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) Sapphire program. This role combines day-to-day SEIT technical leadership with stewardship of a SEIT Center of Excellence: defining engineering standards, playbooks, toolchains, CONOPS and the roadmap for Sapphire archetypes (Make-to-Order, Remanufacturing, Research & Design (R&D)/Prototyping, etc.). The role is responsible for enabling consistent, repeatable, high-quality delivery across bedrocks Product Data Management (PDM)/ Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) / Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) / Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Integrated Product Team (IPTs), while also driving continuous improvement, knowledge transfer, and best-practice adoption across the program.
If you are driven to lead complex system initiatives and want to influence the future of BDS enterprise systems, apply now to shape the Sapphire program's success.
Position Responsibilities: What You'll Do
  • Lead the SEIT team (project engineers, test leads, requirements/architecture Subject Matter Expert (SMEs), embedded SEs) in day-to-day execution of SEIT deliverables; act as the SEIT Sr. Manager's deputy and decision owner in their absence
  • Own and operate the SEIT Center of Excellence (CoE): develop and maintain SEIT standards, templates, governance artifacts (Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)/ Statement of Work (SOW) templates, Change Control Board (CCB) / Configuration Management (CM) playbooks, test & verification master plan templates), and a reusable artifact library for Sapphire
  • Drive SEIT operational excellence by establishing and maturing a SEIT Foundation of Practice: define, collect, and report a standard set of program health metrics and Key Performance Indicator (KPIs), institutionalize repeatable processes and playbooks, and continuously improve team performance through data-driven governance and coaching
  • Own the SEIT CONOPS for Sapphire: define, maintain, and socialize the Concept of Operations that describes how SEIT enabled capabilities (PDM, ERP, MOM/MES, integrations, and test infrastructures) will be used across lifecycle phases (Design, Build, Test, Deploy, Sustain). Ensure the CONOPS links operational scenarios to requirements, architecture, IPT responsibilities, test strategies, and deployment/hypercare plans
  • Define and lead the Sapphire archetype roadmap: translate program strategy into archetype delivery plans (Make-to-Order, Commercial Parts, Remanufacturing, R&D/Prototyping, etc.), identify dependencies across bedrocks, define capability increments for 1.0+ releases, and maintain the archetype backlog and release priorities in collaboration with PIO and IPT leads
  • Institutionalize engineering best practices and toolchains (Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) workflows, requirements management, traceability, integration test automation, digital thread artifacts) to ensure traceability, repeatability, and audit readiness. Champion integrated tool use (Teamcenter/ Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), DOORS/Polarion, ADO/Jira, BORIS, Planner, Power BI)
  • Serve as the SEIT technical focal for cross-functional integration planning and execution with Dev IPTs, I&I, PIO, Deployment, and Business Change Management; remove cross-IPT execution blockers and establish recurrent cadences for alignment (schedule, risk, CCB, test calendars)
  • Lead the development and operationalization of SEIT KPIs and health metrics (schedule adherence, traceability coverage, CCB throughput, defect escape/closure rates, integration pass/fail rates, automation coverage) and present monthly to program leadership
  • Drive continuous improvement via lessons-learned, capability increment retrospectives, and adoption of repeatable artifacts; run Communities of Practice, training, and "teach" sessions to scale skills across SEIT and IPTs
  • Executive Engagement: Prepare and present milestone readiness evidence and technical status updates to senior leadership, milestone review boards, and governance committees
  • Drive SEIT operational excellence by establishing and maturing a SEIT Foundation of Practice: define, collect, and report a standard set of program health metrics and KPIs, institutionalize repeatable processes and playbooks, and continuously improve team performance through data-driven governance and coaching
  • Up to 20% travel may be required

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
