Meet The Team

As a Full Stack Software Development Engineer II on EG Advertising, you will help
build the platform at the center of Expedia Group's advertising growth strategy.
You will contribute to scalable, low-latency systems and intelligent ad experiences
that expand inventory, improve relevance, and help EG Advertising achieve
ambitious revenue goals across onsite, partner, and off-platform channels. You will work on systems that support the advertising lifecycle, including partner-facing tools, campaign management, ad retrieval, bidding, ranking, delivery, reporting,
and measurement.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain secure, scalable services

and applications, contributing to low-level design, API design, and data
modeling for business-critical capabilities.

  • Write clean, reliable, and well-tested code, applying sound

engineering principles, design patterns, and code review practices to
improve quality, performance, and maintainability.

  • Own well-defined features through technical design,

implementation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration, with support from
senior engineers on broader architectural decisions.

  • Diagnose and resolve production issues, participate in root

cause analysis, and contribute to improvements in reliability, observability,
and resilience.

  • Collaborate with product, data science, and engineering

partners to refine requirements, make data-informed technical decisions,
and deliver reusable solutions.

  • Contribute to the safe integration and operation of AI/ML-

enabled capabilities, applying foundational familiarity with AI-driven
systems, tools, or workflows to real-world products.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience building and maintaining services or applications in production environments.

  • Proficiency with Kotlin or Java, with experience building backend systems using microservices and event-driven architectures.

  • Experience with the software development lifecycle for services or applications, including design, implementation, code reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building full-stack applications, including modern frontend development, backend services, APIs, and data flows.

  • Experience with ad servers, ad bidders, ad selection or ranking systems, campaign delivery systems, programmatic advertising platforms, or similarly complex recommendation or ML-driven decisioning systems.

  • Experience designing, operating, or supporting distributed services in production, with attention to observability, reliability, and performance optimization.

  • Experience with AWS, serverless patterns, or infrastructure-as-code tools such as CloudFormation.

  • Experience with containerized deployments (for example, Docker and Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and test automation.

  • Experience collaborating with Data Scientists or integrating data-driven features into production services to improve relevance, personalization, or operational outcomes.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including experience leading small technical projects and contributing to engineering best practices within a team.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
