Job Description:

At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward.
We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.

About the Role:

We're hiring a Software Engineer II to join our Scout team—Remitly's Agentic AI team. We build AI-powered experiences that help customers send money and complete tasks wherever they are- on Remitly's website, mobile app, or third-party platforms like WhatsApp.

As a member of the Scout team, you'll help enable money transfer functionality on external platforms and contribute to a robust conversational AI platform used across the business. You'll be involved in prototyping, validating, and scaling new AI-driven solutions, working closely with cross-functional partners including UX, Legal, Compliance, and Marketing.

You Will:

  • Gather and analyze requirements, clarifying feature requirements and technical design.

  • Design and write high-quality, modular, and maintainable code for APIs, data storage solutions, and integrations with third-party services. Resolve root causes of most software failures, not just symptoms.

  • Propose trade-offs on technical approach and surface risks early in business expectations and technical design.

  • Partner with product/program managers, marketing, compliance, and legal specialists to understand requirements and shape solutions.

  • Provide comprehensive and constructive code reviews and design feedback to peers.

  • Improve how software is deployed, documented, tested, logged, and monitored.

  • Be an onboarding resource for new team members.

  • Report directly to the Engineering Manager in Seattle.

You Have:

  • A BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience

  • Experience building and optimizing large-scale web architectures.

  • Knowledge of backend programming languages such as Java or Golang

  • Proven experience software development practices, system design, software design patterns, and algorithms

  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.)

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
