The AI Transformation team within Microsoft Frontier Company is reimagining how the company operates in the age of AI. As a Software Engineer II/ Sr. Software Engineer, you will bring strong software design and engineering expertise to build AI-powered solutions that transform how Microsoft Frontier Company operates. You’ll work in small, multidisciplinary teams to rapidly move from prototype to production, using AI and agentic coding tools to build reliable applications, agents, integrations, and workflows that deliver measurable operational impact.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and operate production-grade AI-powered applications, agents, services, integrations, and workflows that transform how Microsoft Frontier Company operates.
  • Rapidly move from requirements and ideas to working solutions, prototyping and iterating based on real-world feedback while maintaining high standards for reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic coding tools throughout the software development lifecycle to accelerate development, testing, debugging, experimentation, and delivery.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into practical technical designs and scalable implementations, working closely with engineers, applied scientists, TPMs, designers, and operational teams.
  • Apply strong software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and operational readiness.
  • Build reusable components, accelerators, and engineering patterns that enable successful solutions to scale across teams and transformation scenarios.
  • Learn and adapt quickly in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, experimenting with emerging AI technologies and continuously improving solutions based on measurable outcomes.
  • Apply a security-first mindset and incorporate privacy, Responsible AI, compliance, and Microsoft engineering requirements throughout design and delivery.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR equivalent experience. 

 

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years  technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
