What this position entails

The Software Engineer III will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering innovative technology solutions for the Life Sciences industry. As a key member of our Life Sciences product development team for Contxt, you will help create early-stage product solutions informed by market needs and product requirements.

We are hiring for two roles and are seeking strong expertise in one of two areas:

• Electronic health records (EHR) and clinical data, or
• AI-assisted software delivery as an established professional practice

Candidates with strength in both areas are ideal; however, those with deep expertise in one and working fluency in the other are also encouraged to apply.

As a software engineer focused on Life Sciences data solutions and products, you thrive in fast-paced, early-stage environments, are deeply curious about clinical trial operations, and can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution. In this role, you will help us achieve product-market fit, scale effectively, and bring new offerings to market. You will have the opportunity to shape early product direction and deliver solutions that drive efficiency, compliance, and value for our clients.

How we work: AI-assisted delivery 

Generative AI is embedded in how the Contxt team builds and ships software today—it is not a side experiment. We use it throughout the development lifecycle, including refinement, planning, implementation, testing, and code review. This role is intended to deepen that capability: we are looking for engineers who already apply AI-assisted delivery in a professional setting and can help raise the bar across the team.

We are not looking for someone focused only on what might be possible. We want to understand how you work today: how you guide AI using written specifications and relevant context, where you apply human judgment and review, how you generate and validate tests, and what you choose not to delegate. Our standard is fast delivery through high-quality gates, with a person accountable for every requirement, every line of code, and every test that reaches a client.

What you'll be doing

• Design, develop, maintain and improve software and other technical solutions that solve business challenges
• Play a key role in redesigning our monolithic legacy products in AWS
• Champion AWS best practices
• Mentoring team members on software engineering best practices
• Focus on overall product quality 
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests 
• Responsibly self-manage workload given project priorities, deadlines and deliverables 
• Help the team achieve sprint goals through independent work and collaboration
• Participate in code reviews to promote quality and best practices
• Support code deployments
• Use generative AI across refinement, planning, implementation, test generation, and code review, and improve how the team applies it
• Write the specifications, steering context, and prompts that make AI-generated work predictable, reviewable, and traceable to requirements
• Hold the quality gates: review AI-generated code with the same rigor as your own, and confirm testing, security, and observability standards are met before anything ships
• Design and build against clinical data sources, including EHR data, FHIR/HL7 interfaces, and medical claims data

What we need

• 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
• Strong experience with C# (.NET 8), React, and SQL
• Experience developing cloud-native applications in AWS
• Understanding of DevOps best practices using GitHub and Terraform
• Familiarity with Agile delivery practices, such as Scrum
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle
• Strong technical design, problem-solving, and debugging skills
• Experience with domain-driven design
• Experience with microservices architecture
• Experience with event-driven architecture
• Experience writing testable code, including unit, integration, and related automated tests
• Passion for building high-quality systems using AWS best practices
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Proven analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and implement business and functional requirements
• Understanding of the value of test automation and a commitment to incorporating it into everyday development practices
• Hands-on professional experience using AI-assisted development tools—such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot agents, Claude Code, or comparable tools—as part of daily software delivery in a corporate environment
• A repeatable approach to AI-assisted delivery, including specification- and context-driven prompting, defined human review checkpoints, automated test coverage for generated code, and traceability from requirements to code to tests
• Sound judgment about where AI adds value and where it does not, including when to reject, revise, or avoid generated output
• Strong working knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) data and clinical workflows, including FHIR/HL7 interoperability and clinical or claims data integration

• Experience with Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence
• Experience mentoring teams on AI-assisted engineering practices

Location 

The expected application deadline for this job is November 30, 2026. This position is open to remote work. Applicants must be willing to travel to the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI as needed and travel nationwide for meetings, conferences, and team events. 

Compensation 

The overall range for this role is $104,900 - $199,065. For candidates residing in:

• Alaska, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, or the District of Columbia the range is $120,635 - $199,065. 
• All other locations the range is $104,900 - $173,100. 

A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
