Primary Function:

The Senior PCB Design Engineer is responsible for owning and executing complex printed circuit board (PCB) designs for advanced radar products and related hardware.

This position works closely with Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS), RF, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, as well as external suppliers, to translate schematics, performance requirements, and physical constraints into high-performance, reliable, and manufacturable PCB designs.

The engineer will play a key role throughout the product lifecycle, from initial layout planning and design release through new product introduction (NPI), production, and ongoing product support.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on PCB design experience, strong technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Independently plan and manage assigned PCB designs from schematic review through production release.
  • Estimate project requirements, establish priorities, identify dependencies and technical risks, and communicate project status.
  • Translate schematics, electrical requirements, and mechanical constraints into complex multilayer PCB assemblies (PCBAs).
  • Collaborate with Engineering and PCB fabricators to establish board outlines, stackups, materials, component placement, routing, controlled impedance, via structures, and other physical design requirements.
  • Apply signal integrity, power integrity, electromagnetic compatibility, thermal management, reliability, and design-for-manufacturability best practices.
  • Work with Electrical Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and external vendors to optimize designs for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), product revisions, and sustaining engineering changes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to resolve fabrication, assembly, build, yield, and production issues.
  • Create, review, and maintain component symbols, footprints, and 3D models within the company-wide component library.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced PCB designers.
  • Improve PCB design methods, standards, engineering tool workflows, and design review and release practices.
  • Work with RF Engineering and Analog/Mixed-Signal design teams to understand design requirements, key features, and vendor capabilities.
  • Implement PCB schematic and layout best practices to support product performance and reliability.
 Required Skills / Experience:
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar PCB design software.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of PCB layout practices for RF, millimeter-wave, high-speed digital, mixed-signal, analog, and power applications.
  • Knowledge of PCB stackups, materials, controlled impedance, via structures, surface finishes, fabrication processes, and assembly methods.
  • Practical experience applying design-for-manufacturability, design-for-assembly, and design-for-test principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable IPC standards.
  • Understanding of controlled PCB fabrication, assembly, and engineering release documentation requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments with minimal direction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional engineering teams, fabricators, and contract manufacturers.
 Desired Skills / Experience:

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • PCB design for radar, aerospace, defense, RF, or other high-reliability electronic products.
  • High-density interconnect (HDI) technology.
  • High-layer-count PCB designs.
  • Rigid-flex or flexible circuit design.
  • Other advanced PCB technologies.
  • Experience with Arena or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • IPC CID, CID+, or other relevant PCB design certifications.
 Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 or more years of relevant PCB design experience, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
  • Eligibility to handle export-controlled technical data, including ITAR- and EAR-controlled information.

Export Control Requirements:

This company's technology is subject to U.S. Government export controls. Applicants must be eligible to handle export-controlled information or obtain the required government authorizations.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
