The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Manager to join our dynamic Finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening our financial framework, shaping accounting operations, and supporting key strategic initiatives as Grafana Labs scales globally.

The ideal candidate brings a deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting, thrives when tackling complex, high-judgment accounting areas, and possesses a proven track record of driving process improvements. If you excel at cross-functional collaboration and navigating fast-paced, high-growth environments, this role offers an exciting platform to make a lasting impact.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Prepare and/or review financial statements, supporting work papers, and disclosure checklists to ensure GAAP-compliant, accurate financial reporting, and serve as a key point of contact for the external audit.
  • Own key quarterly and annual financial reporting controls, ensuring they operate effectively and evidence is complete; this is a core part of ensuring the integrity of Grafana’s financial statements.
  • Own the review of complex, judgment-heavy areas, including but not limited to commissions, as part of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process, ensuring transactions are properly accounted for and well-supported.
  • Own technical accounting research on complex and non-recurring transactions, applying GAAP and authoritative literature to reach well-supported conclusions, and draft clear, well-documented memos.
  • Own the evaluation and adoption of new accounting standards, and the ongoing development and maintenance of Grafana’s accounting policies as the business evolves.
  • Proactively identify emerging areas of complexity in the close process and partner with cross-functional teams to ensure timely, accurate resolution.
  • Partner cross-functionally to understand business transactions and clearly communicate accounting and equity-related issues to stakeholders.

What Makes You a Great Fit:

  • Big 4 experience (or similar technical accounting advisory background) and CPA certification (or equivalent) required.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, including but not limited to ASC 230, ASC 260, ASC 350, ASC 606, ASC 718, and ASC 805.
  • Experience researching FASB Accounting Standards Codification and Big 4 interpretive guidance.
  • Experience supporting financial reporting controls and external audits.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to lead projects collaboratively in a changing environment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment in a complex, fast-moving environment.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience with Workiva, NetSuite, and Xactly (or similar commissions tool)
  • Proven track record of applying process automation or data analytics in technical accounting or financial reporting
