Corporate Security & Resilience Intern: 2027 Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program

Calling all emerging technologists!

Looking to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field of cyber/corporate security? The Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program is a critical program within Enterprise Technology & Security Services that helps passionate early career professionals gain real-world exposure to groundbreaking technology. 

This Internship program begins in late May 2027, and will be based out of our headquarters in Johnston, RI

Corporate Security and Resilience Track 


The CS&R Intern will be responsible for assisting on a number of initiatives to improve processes and implement efficiencies within any of the following teams: Cybersecurity, Security Engineering and Architecture, /or Identity and Access Management teams.
 
Through hands-on experience in this role, the CSR Intern will:

  • Gain experience supporting security analytics, automation, and resilience initiatives, including efforts to improve security monitoring capabilities, enhance the use of security data, automate processes, and support business continuity and recovery planning activities.

  • Build foundational knowledge of access governance and cybersecurity controls through exposure to user access management practices that help ensure appropriate access to systems and data.

  • Gain exposure to security operations by supporting proactive security monitoring, incident response readiness activities, and operational reporting for critical banking and money movement applications.

  • Develop an understanding of cybersecurity regulations, industry frameworks, enterprise security standards, and best practices through research and analysis that supports informed decision-making.

  • Build foundational knowledge of cybersecurity risk management by supporting risk assessments, control reviews, internal audits, regulatory examinations, and related documentation efforts.

  • Strengthen collaboration and communication skills through partnering with technology, compliance, legal, business resilience, and security teams to support enterprise security objectives and program deliverables.

  • Develop project and organizational skills through supporting project documentation, meeting notes, status reporting, process documentation, control evidence collection, and leadership reporting.

  • Advance your understanding of enterprise security architecture, identity and access management (IAM), and modern security technologies by contributing to security standards, design patterns, capability roadmaps, and authentication-focused initiatives.

Experience during the program
In this 10-week program, interns will gain a strong understanding of Software Engineer at Citizens. This program also provides mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and participation in a variety of activities to further develop professional skills, including:

  • Orientation and networking with all ETS interns
  • Professional development workshops (such as Personal Branding and Communicating with Impact)
  • Social activities (such as sporting events and a bank-wide intern BBQ)
  • Dedicated community service activities

Life after the program
High-performing interns interested in pursuing a career within Enterprise Technology & Security may be extended an offer to return as a Full-time colleague in our Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program (ETSDP) upon graduation. The ETSDP is a full-time program that helps rising professionals build a meaningful career within software, network/systems, data or cloud engineering, technology risk and security. 
 

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

  • Successfully complete a video interview assessment within 4 days of receiving the link. If not completed within the timeframe, your application will be automatically withdrawn from consideration.

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Information Systems, or similar degree with demonstrated interest in cybersecurity, information security, risk management, or technology. 

  • Expected graduation date of May 2028
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • Basic knowledge of Information Security, and/or business controls
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and experience supporting reporting, documentation, or presentations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Internship, academic project, volunteer, or leadership experience in cybersecurity, information security, risk management, compliance, corporate security, technology, business resilience, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, standards, or best practices such as NIST, ISO 27001, or related concepts.

  • Strong analytical, research, organizational, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux, and MacOS), technology environments, and cybersecurity concepts.
