Job Description

We are looking for a strategic, results-driven Director of Digital Acquisition Marketing to lead how we attract, engage, and convert prospective pet parents into Trupanion members. This leader will own digital acquisition across paid media, SEO, email, and SMS, bringing these channels together to create a connected journey from initial interest through enrollment.

This role will be responsible for developing the digital acquisition strategy, identifying opportunities to grow demand, and optimizing acquisition channels to drive qualified traffic, engage prospective pet parents, and ultimately grow enrollments. You will lead paid media strategy and performance while also overseeing prospect email and SMS programs, including audience segmentation, messaging, campaign execution, testing, and optimization.

The ideal candidate is both a strategic leader and strong operator who understands how channels work together to drive growth. You are comfortable using data to make investment decisions, challenging existing approaches, testing new ideas, and translating customer behavior into actionable marketing strategies.

You will lead a team responsible for day-to-day execution while partnering closely with eCommerce, Brand, Sales, Analytics, MarTech, and Technology, to deliver sustainable and efficient enrollment growth.

This position is open to candidates in the Seattle, WA area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and execute acquisition plans that expand reach, capture demand, and drive incremental enrollment growth.
  • Identify and test new audiences, channels, technologies, and acquisition strategies to unlock new growth opportunities.
  • Paid Media
  • Own paid media strategy, investment, and performance across paid search, social, display/programmatic, and emerging channels.
  • Manage agency and vendor relationships, balancing enrollment growth with acquisition efficiency.

  • Improve prospect communications through better targeting, personalization, timing, and channel coordination.

Performance & Leadership

  • Lead and develop the acquisition team while partnering closely with eCommerce, Brand, Analytics, MarTech, and Technology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of digital marketing experience, including leadership experience in acquisition or performance marketing.

  • Experience leading prospect email and SMS strategies, including segmentation, campaign execution, testing, and optimization.
  • Strong understanding of digital acquisition funnels, audience strategy, personalization, and customer behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage significant media budgets and make investment decisions based on performance and business outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience translating marketing and customer data into actionable strategies.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams and managing agency and vendor relationships.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to partner effectively across eCommerce, Brand, Analytics, MarTech, Creative, and Technology.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, balancing long-term strategy with hands-on execution and continuous optimization.

Skills:

  • Strategic thinker who can see the big picture while driving execution.
  • Data-driven and naturally curious, with a strong instinct to ask why and dig deeper.
  • Customer-focused, with an ability to think from the prospect’s perspective.
  • Results-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable making decisions and moving forward in ambiguous or fast-changing environments.
  • Strong communicator who can simplify complex ideas and influence across teams.

What you need to know about the Seattle Tech Scene

Home to tech titans like Microsoft and Amazon, Seattle punches far above its weight in innovation. But its surrounding mountains, sprinkled with world-famous hiking trails and climbing routes, make the city a destination for outdoorsy types as well. Established as a logging town before shifting to shipbuilding and logistics, the Emerald City is now known for its contributions to aerospace, software, biotech and cloud computing. And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
