American Express Global Business Travel
Director, Government Product Management
Amex GBT is a place where colleagues find inspiration in travel as a force for good and – through their work – can make an impact on our industry. We’re here to help our colleagues achieve success and offer an inclusive and collaborative culture where your voice is valued.
Amex GBT supports the world’s most fast-paced travelers, including members of the United States federal government. Our Defense & Government (D&G) portfolio is one of Amex GBT’s most strategically important and complex areas. It serves US Government customers with outstanding compliance requirements, critical expectations, and a technology system that operates separately from Amex GBT’s commercial platform. This senior technology and delivery leadership role is responsible for guiding product strategy, engineering progress, operational results, and commercial coordination across distributed teams and collaborators. This position suits someone who excels at the crossroads of government contracting, technology delivery, and cross-functional influence. The person will build operational rigor in a dynamic setting while following strict contractual and legal compliance rules. The Director will directly lead product managers and business analysts. They will also closely partner with engineering, infrastructure, and commercial leadership throughout the organization. This role reports to the VP, Global Infrastructure & Support.
What You'll DoDefine and maintain the coordinated product and technology roadmap for the D&G portfolio, aligning engineering efforts, product priorities, and customer commitments into a unified delivery plan that reflects regulatory trajectory, including FedRAMP compliance progress and US Government security requirements.
Convert Amex GBT leadership's strategic goals into practical programs that have defined owners, measurable results, and accountability frameworks across dispersed teams. Ensure technical choices consider compliance effects.
Frequently report on portfolio strategy, progress, and risk to the VP and Amex GBT executive leadership, demonstrating GBT's technology capabilities credibly to government customers and commercial partners.
Act as the link between product management, engineering, infrastructure, legal/compliance, and commercial teams—ensuring alignment, removing blockers, and maintaining delivery momentum across organizational boundaries.
Drive structured governance across the D&G delivery ecosystem by establishing program rhythms, blocking issue paths, and decision-making frameworks that reduce dependency on individual relationships and heroics.
Coordinate with customer support, travel operations, engineering, and infrastructure teams to ensure customer-facing technology and service capabilities are aligned with D&G customer needs, contractual commitments, and compliance requirements.
Gain a functional knowledge of Amex GBT's government contracting setting. This includes RFP mechanics, competitive positioning, and contractual requirements. Ensure that proposed solutions can be delivered technically, meet compliance standards, and have practical implementation plans.
Establish meaningful benchmarks and reporting cadences across the portfolio—delivery health, product adoption, customer happiness, and compliance posture—and use data to drive decisions and flag compliance risk proactively.
Guide and grow a group of product managers and business analysts. Establish clear goals, enhance analytical skills, focus on the most valuable issues, and assist with managing vendor relationships for key technology partners.
Develop connections with important partners and engage in strategic customer discussions that require technical knowledge and portfolio understanding. Maintain awareness of compliance requirements related to the D&G portfolio.
You have over 10 years of progressive technology leadership experience. At least 5 of those years are in senior roles across product, engineering, or program delivery. You have demonstrated experience working within or alongside US Government programs, defense contracting, or highly regulated technology environments.
An experienced technology leader with a proven history of guiding delivery and establishing operational standards across complex, multi-party environments while upholding strong analytical standards, accountability, and quality of delivery.
A proficient cross-functional contributor who guides others through persuasion as well as direct power—adept at collaborating across company lines without formal control of all required resources and has a reliable history of leading projects without full organizational command.
Possess commercial insight along with knowledge of government contracting procedures, competitive environments, and RFP response methods. Understand what is required to secure and maintain US Government contracts. Experience in business development or capture is preferred.
A structured problem solver who applies process rigor in ambiguous environments. They identify where heroics hold things together and replace them with durable operating models. They are comfortable working in post-acquisition integration environments and managing legacy complexity.
Knowledge of US Government security and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, FISMA); experience guiding a product or platform through a compliance certification process is a strong plus.
An outstanding communicator with strong written and verbal skills, credibility, and confidence to represent GBT's technology capabilities to government customers, executive collaborators, and commercial partners. They have proven ability to present credibly to executive and government audiences.
Someone who guides their team’s growth, fosters analytical expertise, and demands strong accountability and quality in results. They navigate ambiguity well and focus on evolving toward a mature future condition.
Strong analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision-making; experience building or managing an analytical or business intelligence function is valued.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, with advanced degree or MBA a plus; experience in travel management, hospitality, or broader government services industry is beneficial but not required.
This position serves a United States Federal Government client, so the chosen candidate must be a U.S. Citizen. Authorization to work in the U.S. is not enough. Employment depends on meeting government eligibility criteria, including passing company and government background checks. These checks might review criminal records and credit history.
