Job Description

The Small Business Relationship Manager NMLS is responsible for delivering excellent customer service in alignment with U.S. Bank Core Values while providing comprehensive financial solutions to complex small business clients with annual revenues generally between $500K and $2.5 million, typically not exceeding $5 million. This role deepens existing customer relationships through routine calling and develops new relationship opportunities through business development activities. The role combines digital tools with strong human connections, maintains a portfolio, and partners across internal and external networks to grow revenue and support client outcomes. 

What you’ll do 

  • Prospect for new small business clients and deepen existing relationships to drive year-over-year revenue growth, loan production, deposits, and broader relationship value. 
  • Conduct discovery conversations to understand each client’s business, goals, financial needs, credit profile, and growth opportunities. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for small business clients and recommend appropriate solutions across loans, deposits, cash management, and other core banking products. 
  • Design and structure financial solutions aligned to client objectives, credit standards, portfolio quality expectations, and responsible banking practices. 
  • Manage portfolio performance and credit quality by monitoring market trends, identifying developing risk indicators, and applying sound underwriting judgment. 
  • Partner with underwriting, portfolio management, and internal teams to support timely reporting, responsive portfolio management, and effective client outcomes. 
  • Address client concerns and coordinate across business lines, engaging additional specialists as needed to deliver integrated solutions. 
  • Build relationships in the community, engage with local organizations, and identify business development opportunities that increase visibility and support community impact. 

What you’ll bring 

  • Expert-level consultative selling, financial analysis, and relationship management skills. 
  • Advanced business acumen, underwriting expertise, and product knowledge to deliver sophisticated client solutions. 
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, sales, new business development, customer service and relations, and community relations. 
  • Professionalism and strong working knowledge of applicable lending policies, credit structures, products, services, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Typically a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and three to four years of experience in relationship banking. 

Role expectations and requirements 

  • This role requires National Mortgage Licensing Service (NMLS) registration under the terms of the S.A.F.E. Act of 2008 and Regulation Z, including ongoing compliance with all legal and regulatory registration requirements, such as maintaining a satisfactory criminal and credit record. 
  • The role actively ensures compliance with the U.S. Bank Code of Ethics and all Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act, information security, suspicious activity reporting requirements, policies, and procedures. 
  • The role actively participates in required corporate and business line training in these areas, follows account opening procedures, and understands internal suspicious activity referral requirements and processes as required for the position. 
  • The role may perform other duties as assigned. 

Compensation 

Total compensation includes base compensation in addition to eligibility for incentives based on the employee’s production under the applicable incentive plan. 

Travel / field activity 

Outside prospecting and sales activities in assigned territory 50-70% of the time.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $97,560.00 - 119,240.00
