This position is open to candidates in the Seattle, WA area. You will have a hybrid remote/in-office schedule where you will work from our casual, pet-friendly office at least 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

This person manages the DevOps team. The team runs source control, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, release tooling, and pipeline secrets and certificates for Trupanion's engineering teams on Azure.

The manager hires and develops the team, plans and tracks its work, and manages the vendor engineers. They work closely with software engineering leads, Internal Audit, and Information Security. Responsibilities:

  • Set code review, testing, and release standards for the team's own code.

  • Plan work in two-week sprints and manage the DevOps queue in Jira Service Management.

  • Decide, with engineering leads, how pipelines, Terraform, and release tooling are built and run.

  • Build tools so engineering teams can deploy and configure their own services without filing tickets.

  • Run pipeline change controls (approvals, separation of duties, audit evidence) with Internal Audit and Information Security.

  • Manage the vendor team's scope, quality, and delivery.

  • Report monthly on ticket volume, SLA, and delivery metrics.

  • Lead incident response and reviews for pipeline failures. Take part in on-call.

  • Has built internal tools or templates that other engineering teams used.

  • Has run change controls under SOX, SOC 2, PCI, or a similar audit.

  • Has managed contractors or a vendor team.

  • Has run a team in Jira with Scrum and reported on metrics such as DORA.

  • Understands Git branching, pull request policies, Key Vault, managed identity, and OIDC federation.

Nice To Have Skills

  • Moved a company from Azure DevOps to GitHub, or off Octopus Deploy.

  • Backstage or another developer portal.

And its status as a thriving tech ecosystem is attracting out-of-town companies looking to establish new tech and engineering hubs.

Key Facts About Seattle Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 287,000; 13% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software, biotechnology, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $3.1 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Madrona, Fuse, Tola, Maveron
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Washington, Seattle University, Seattle Pacific University, Allen Institute for Brain Science, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Seattle Children’s Research Institute
