Seattle has proven to be a strong player in the tech space, and many companies based in the Puget Sound are making significant business developments. The city had a busy year for acquisitions where some of the biggest names in tech added new solutions to their stacks to help further their growth and expand their offerings.

Spanning industries from entertainment and automotive to edtech and real estate, take a look back on these Seattle acquisitions from 2022.

Snap! Mobile, the parent company of fundraising app Snap! Raise, works to help teams and schools fund, manage and create youth programs. Snap! Mobile announced its acquisition of CNXT Digital, an Illinois-based software vendor focused on schools, in May. The deal equips Snap! Mobile with tools for extracurricular scheduling and registration, as well as message translation.

 

As it works to make automotive maintenance less of a hassle for drivers, Wrench is expanding the reach of its home auto services platform with the addition of Silicon Valley-based YourMechanic. The acquisition allows Wrench to grow into 10,000 new zip codes. In total, it can now serve 35,000 zip codes and aims to service more than 20,000 vehicles a month.

 

Software giant Microsoft is beefing up its cybersecurity capabilities with its June acquisition of Miburo. The New York-based cybersecurity firm specializes in monitoring foreign hackers and helping buisnesses deflect hacking attempts. Upon the deal’s closure, Miburo will join Microsoft’s Customer Security and Trust organization.

 

Known for its e-commerce prowess, Amazon is deepening its business operations in a range of other sectors. The company announced in July its plan to acquire digital primary care provider One Medical for roughly $3.9 billion, a deal that will largely expand California-based One Medical’s reach. Amazon announced in the following month its acquisition of iRobot, a Massacusettes-headquartered robotic vacuum manufacturer. The $1.7 billion deal will expand Amazon’s suite of home tech products.

 

Focusing on the digital learning space, edtech company Promethean offers interactive teaching displays and remote learning software solutions. The company acquired Polish software developer Explain Everything in November. The added tools will allow Promethean to help educators make digitally sharable instructional videos and lessons that work with several video conferencing tools. 

 

Announced alongside plans to go public via SPAC merger, enterprise video engagement company Banzai will acquire ad-tracking company Hyros. The $110 million deal will help Banzai flesh out its marketing solution with tools for gathering actionable sales and marketing data for companies. It will also expand Banzai’s total addressable market and fuel revenue growth, according to the company.

 

Real estate company Zillow added a new subsidiary to its ShowingTime+ software suite, an offering that helps real estate agents better serve their clients. ​​As of mid-December, VRX Media is joining Zillow, contributing services like 3D tours and aerial drone photography. In the coming year, Zillow plans to release two new listing media products with VRX’s tech.
