To work at a company where ‘customers are king’ requires passion and a service-oriented mindset.

Or as Steve Bendt, VP of marketing at Pitchbook said, “Service-minded people get up every day looking forward to helping people and finding solutions to the day’s problems.”

At the following three Seattle tech companies, candidates can expect to work on customer-oriented products including a content creation platform, software apps that provide journalists and businesses with private market data and more.

But what can you expect from their culture? We spoke to senior leaders at Pitchbook, Qualtrics and Unity Technologies to find out.

What They Do: Pitchbook provides tools for journalists, investors and businesses to follow public and private equity markets.

One thing that would surprise people about Pitchbook: “PitchBook is in hyper-growth mode with a compounded annual growth rate of 95 percent since 2010,”  said Steve Bendt, VP of marketing. “What surprises people is the pace of change from quarter to quarter and year over year.  High growth requires consistent innovation and focus on what really matters. The result is that high performers have more opportunities to take on new roles or responsibilities and ultimately grow more quickly in their career.”

Service-minded people get up every day looking forward to helping people and finding solutions to the day’s problems.”

One trait all team members share: For Bendt, “customers are king.”

“Our customer is always at the heart of what we do, which helps us extend a service-minded expectation within all of our teams. We hire and promote team members who naturally like to find solutions to problems and generally help people in any way they can. Service-minded people get up every day looking forward to helping people and finding solutions to the day’s problems.”

What They Do: Qualtrics enables businesses to interact with employees and consumers in one place. Using their experience management (XM) software, organizations can capture customer, employee, product and brand experience insights.

One thing that would surprise people about Qualtrics: “I think people are surprised to learn three things about Qualtrics: how long the company has been around, the breadth of customers we have and the strength of our business model,”  said CTO John Thimsen. “The company was founded in 2002, in Provo, Utah (with co-headquarters in Seattle) and has been profitable every year since being founded. “We have over 11,000 customers and 99 of the top 100 business schools use our product, the XM Platform.”

We're very careful about ensuring that we hire people who will contribute to our culture in a positive way.”

One trait all team members share: All team members are thoughtful, Thimsen said. “This manifests itself in the work that we do every day, from how we prioritize features for our customers and operate our platform, to how we interact as team members, solving problems and resolving conflict. We're very careful about ensuring that we hire people who will contribute to our culture in a positive way.”

What We Do: Unity Technologies offers content creators a real-time 3D (RT3D) development platform where they can create rich, interactive 2D, 3D, VR and AR experiences. Apps made with Unity reach 2.7 billion devices worldwide and were installed more than 24 billion times in the last 12 months.

One thing that would surprise people about Unity Technologies: Too often, people working in the video game industry are subject to long hours and crunch mode, XR Foundations Lead Rick Johnson said. “Unity is at the opposite of the spectrum, as it has a strong culture of work-life balance, allowing employees to be consistently and reliably able to enjoy their home life on a daily basis.”

Too often, people working in the video game industry are subject to long hours and crunch mode.”

One trait all team members share: The Unity XR Team is comprised of people from a wide range of skill sets and industries, well beyond just the video game industry. Johnson said.

“This helps us understand the AR/VR segment much more holistically, allowing us to provide solutions and ideas to customers across a diverse range of industries and markets,” he added.
