Marketing technology sits at the intersection of many different fields, from the creative elements that go into ad production to the big data principles that guide how businesses target potential customers. And while San Francisco reigns supreme as tech’s global hub, Seattle’s reputation as a center for big data and machine learning — and a cheaper cost of living — has tempted plenty of Northern Californians north to find the data scientists and tech experts they need to keep their business ahead of the pack.
Here, we profile four big San Francisco marketing tech companies with offices in the Seattle area.
Founded: 2009
Local HQ: Downtown Seattle
Details: Hearsay Systems offers a suite of software products designed to help financial service providers use social media, websites, text and email to engage with customers and build stronger relationships with their communities. The company builds compliance into its solutions, freeing financial advisors from regulatory headaches when building marketing campaigns across their customized social media management platform, mobile-friendly websites and text and voice platforms. In addition to its San Francisco headquarters and downtown Seattle office, Hearsay Systems maintains offices across Asia, Europe and North America.
Founded: 2006
Local HQ: Bellevue
Details: Every publisher and website owner longs to know their audience — who they are, what they’re interested in and how to keep them coming back. Quantcast seeks to arm publishers with that information, using machine learning technology that measures the behavior of a user on an ongoing basis, as they move through the web, offering what the company calls a “real-time pulse” on individuals — and the internet as a whole. The company works on over 100 million websites and mobile apps, offering everything from a free solution that helps publishers know their users to advanced software designed to grow audience and revenue.
Founded: 2006
Local HQ: Pioneer Square
Details: Demandbase says it’s the only company to provide a full set of software solutions designed specifically for the B2B marketing approach known as “Account Based Marketing,” or ABM. The software helps businesses find prospects that will have the biggest effect on their business, make contact with highly-placed decision makers and make them aware of a business’ services through account-based advertising. Demandbase users can then build personalized web experiences for those prospects, and measure the results with a data analytics dashboard. Headquartered in San Francisco, the company has offices in five U.S. cities and a sixth in London.
Founded: 2008
Local HQ: Bellevue
Details: Thunder is on a mission to rid the internet of so-called “bad ads,” and dubs itself as the only creative ad company to join the Coalition for Better Ads, an industry group dedicated to eradicating online advertising that disrupts user experiences. Through its dashboard, businesses can manage copywriters, photographers, designers and other creatives, test and track different types of ads and personalize them for individual users. Headquartered in San Francisco, the company has offices in Portland and Bellevue.
