While network security is always an important topic in tech, its significance in the workplace is just one of the many considerations to weigh for companies working remote as a result of COVID-19. As one of the Emerald City’s many cybersecurity players, it’s a topic on which Seattle-based org ExtraHop has its eye.

In a press release from April discussing the findings of a SANS Institute survey about network visibility, Bryce Hein, ExtraHop’s CMO, said: “At a time when organizations are rapidly transitioning to remote work and cloud usage is surging, network visibility has never been more critical.”

Launched in 2007, the company provides cybersecurity solutions for customers working in healthcare, retail and a host of other industries.

Below, learn more about how this month’s featured company tackles network protection and the recent recognition they’ve garnered for their efforts.

What they do: The company’s cloud-native solution monitors network activity in real time to detect and respond to cyberthreats, harnessing the power of tech such as machine learning to identify potentially malicious behavior.

Who they support: Customers include The Home Depot, Ulta Beauty and Concur. According to ExtraHop, the company’s reach includes 13 million “IT assets” and more than 2 million POS systems.

Their tech stack: Engineers at ExtraHop use a wide range of tech. Among the languages used are C++, Golang, JavaScript, Python and SQL; libraries include jQuery, React and Redux; and AngularJS, Hadoop and Node.js are some of the frameworks.

In the news: Recently, the AI Breakthrough Awards recognized ExtraHop’s Reveal(x) as 2020’s “Best AI-based Solution for Cybersecurity” — marking it the third year in a row that they received the honor, according to the company’s press release. It came on the heels of another plaudit: In July, the company said it had been included on Forbes’ 2020 AI 50 list of leaders in the field.

Looking ahead: In May, the company issued a white paper, titled “Connected Devices in the Time of COVID-19,” emphasizing how the shift to remote work impacts network security. In the future, “a long-term transition to a more flexible workforce model will require security that can adapt to campus, branch and remote work scenarios,” the white paper detailed.

Exec insight: VP of HR Sheryl Loeffler previously shared her management philosophy in an interview with Built In Seattle. When asked for her managerial advice, Loeffler said that the most important thing a manager can do for their people is to “clear a path for them to do their jobs effectively, support their continued skill development and provide clear strategy and guidance that keeps everyone on the same page and working toward the same goal.”
